Customer Reviews for Dainese D-Explorer Gore-Tex Jacket - Castle Rock / Black / Dark Gull Grey

October 5, 2016

Almost like two jackets in one

I deliberated over buying this jacket for around 4 months while looking at offerings from the competition like Rev-it, Alpinestars and even Rukka (too expensive). I wanted a jacket that was excellent in the hot weather but could keep me dry when it changed. This fits the bill really well. When it's hot, open the excellent arm vents, massive chest vents and back vent fully and it's almost like a mesh jacket with incredible air flow. When it rains, add the Gore-Tex layer (that just about fits in the jacket pockets) and your good to go. The only improvements I would make are to make the Poachers pocket at the back much bigger (on-par with the Rev-it jackets), use better quality zips as they don't feel as robust as the YKK ones and at this price point, make the jacket's insulated layer an off the bike stand alone fleece or similar. Sizing wise, this is quite an athletic fit and I went for a slightly tighter fit than normal as with the airflow going through when fully open, I didn't want it flapping like a carrier bag in the wind. With the insulated layers in, that does mean its quite tight around the arms but when wearing my own layers under this, its not a problem (I have ditched the insulated layers that came with it). If you want a good all-rounder, then would definitely recommend. I also purchased the matching pants and the set worked brilliantly on a 2200 mile round trip through Europe in May this year.

Versatile

This is a very versatile jacket, with loads of vents and the detachable Gore-tex layer. Wore it for the first time last weekend on a tour to the Dales and it coped very well with vents open when it was hot and kept the rain out. My only negative point, which is why it gets 4 stars, is that the material on the outside of the jacket does not seem as durable as on other jackets I have seen. Also not sure how water resistant the outer layer is, but haven't worn it without the Gore-tex in heavy rain.

About
Dainese

In 1972 Mr Lino Dainese made some leather motocross trousers, starting a biking brand that has since brought style and innovation to motorcyclists the world over. Working with some of the most evocative names in motorcycle racing, Dainese led the way in the development of leather stretch panels, knee sliders and race suits- cut to suit the rider in a real world riding position. The 80's brought back protectors (with Barry Sheene), composite armour, and more aerodynamic suits; whilst the 90's brought gloves with knuckle armour and the first biking airbag system. Dainese remains at the forefront of motorcycle clothing technology and continues to be the brand of choice for the biggest names in bike racing, all the way up to the greatest rider of all time, Valentino Rossi. Today, Dainese is one of the most recognisable, coolest, and most aspirational motorcycle brands on the planet. With a well deserved reputation for safety that has crossed over into nearly every extreme sport there is, the name Dainese is synonymous with style, protection, comfort and durability.
