Customer Reviews for TomTom Sat-Nav - Rider 42
All good so far
Simple to set up and intuitive user interface. Touch screen a little too sensitive if anything ... takes a bit to get used to it but not a problem. Fast GPS acquisition and route planning. Junctions are well illustrated on the move along with very clear verbal instructions which means you can keep your eyes on the road. Nice solid QR mount (I also bought a yoke-nut with integral ball mount from eBay as the bars on my Triumph Sprint ST don't have space for the TomTom bar clamp). Overall, I'm very impressed.Read more
Great value for money Sat-Nav
Only received and not had a chance to try as yet although is fitted to my bike and was extremely easy to mount have set up and registered it with TomTom. Only downside with this the app uses a fair bit of memory. Overall delighted with product and well impressed with Sportsbikeshop, well done everyone.Read more

Sav-Nav made simple
Not being techno savvy - the Rider 42 is simple and intuitive to set up and use. Everything in the box that you need to connect to your bike and use straightaway. Unless you desperately want or need all the extra features on more expensive versions, the Rider 42 will be perfect. Only negative is that it's quite heavy and will need to buy a carry case. Best price on the market and excellent quick service from Sportsbikeshop. Highly recommended.Read more
Good piece of kit
Easy to pair with my phone and helmet Bluetooth. Voice directions clear. Screen easy to read and the ability to turn it through 90 degrees really helps. Not overly keen on the supporting software but its usable.Read more

Best bike gadget ever
The GPS is really robust (I was quite surprised at the size actually as it was quite big). Easy to use with some great features (like finding thrill bike rides). The connection cable to the battery is plenty big enough. You have to buy a intercom separately if you want to hear the directions in your helmet. Unable to Mount on an Hyabusa due to lack of handlebar space - so has to purchase a alternative solution.Read more

Questions and Answers
Does it show current road speed. I am thinking of getting one for my trials bike rather than fitting a conventional speedo. Two birds - one stone.February 1, 2018
This SatNav will display your current speed.
Hi, can you please inform me if this unit comes with a bike powered docking station. Thanks.January 25, 2018
A bike powered docking station is included in the box.
Is it possible to plan routes using coordinates on the Rider 42? regards Gary.January 24, 2018
It is possible - Press the main menu button, select search, then select "whole map" near the top right of the screen, scroll down, and then select "Latitude Logtitude" and enter the co-ordinates.
Can I connect a TomTom Rider 42 to my bike using mini USB?January 15, 2018
You can power the sat nav using a USB to Mini USB cable. There is a mini USB port in the corner at the back of the unit. However, powering the sat nav using this method does mean that the unit is no longer waterproof.
Will the device find nearest campsites, petrol stations and supermarkets?December 27, 2017
Yes, you can search for points of interest and they will be displayed on the screen.
Does it come with a motorcycle handlebar mountDecember 27, 2017
Yes, the Rider 42 comes with a secure Ram mount.
Can you connect Bluetooth headphones and just listen to verbal instructionsDecember 13, 2017
This is possible, but the headphones would need to have a relatively new bluetooth standard installed.
I have a ball mount so does the Rider 42 come with a suitable mount also I want to run it via a cigarette type cable? I don't mind if the cable is an extra and if you have one how long is it?December 8, 2017
The Rider 42 does come with a ball mount, and so should fit onto your mount. There is a USB - Micro USB cable included, it is around 118cm in length. If you use a 12v - USB adapter, you can charge the satnav. However, if charging from the micro usb port rather than the mount itself this will not be waterproof.
Will the unit record a route that hasn't been stored into it? For example if I'm going for or a ride with some mates on a route they know, can I log where I'm riding so I can look at the route and come back another day?December 5, 2017
Yes, you select "record a track" Once you have finished recording, the track will be saved in My Routes, and can be experted as a GPX file and saved on a memory card for sharing with others.
Does this contain a mounting kit or does it have to be purchased separatelyNovember 24, 2017
The TomTom Rider 42 is supplied with a secure RAM mount.
UK only or Western Europe includedNovember 21, 2017
If you click on the "features" tab you will see a list of all of the maps that are included (all of Western Europe)
I've never owned a GPS myself, so I was wondering does this kit come with the tools/equipment needed to attach the device to your bike? Also does this device have the feature to "Avoid Motorways" ?November 6, 2017
This does not come with the tools needed to fit - you will need an Allen key,a spanner and a cross head screwdriver. Using the winding road (or hilly road) option would take you away from the motorway.
