Great bit of kit
Super quality air vest but let's hope I never need to use it. Purchased after a friend came off his bike wearing one and it saved him from having serious injuries.Read more
Nice product but confusing sizing
Well made and very reassuring product that hopefully will never be used in earnest. It is very comfortable and that little extra weight it adds just increases that sense of being secure. I would totally recommend this product. My only struggle was finding which size to order. Very poor sizing guide on Helite website. Overly complex. I stuck rigidly to all their various measurements and that process meant I should have ordered the XLL version which has extra width of about 100mm above an XL. I normally use XL and that extra big XLLsize seemed very odd. I ignored Helite and simply ordered the XL size which arrived double quick from the excellent Sportsbike people and its a perfect fit over my Klim jacket. If I had ordered the Helite sizing the vest would have been massively oversize.Read more
Why Wouldn't You??
I had one of these vests demonstrated on me at a bike show a few years ago and honestly don't know why it's taken me so long to get one? They're a new idea that works and like others I hope that I never have to test it in a real life incident. Quality appears spot on and it's simplicity to put on and use. Just remember to leave it a little on the loose side to leave room for inflation. In summer a wear a mesh jacket and will now remove the back pad from it, together with the Helite they are lighter than most conventional jackets and in my opinion will offer much more protection. Excellent service from SBS as always.Read more
I should have got one of these a while back
This product will hopefully provide me with protection of the spine and neck should I ever get thrown from my bike. I am 5'10' with a 46 inch chest. I went for the XL and it fits a treat. You need to put your jacket on before measuring for size. I like the fact that should the air vest be activated that you can fit a new canister yourself for £20.as opposed to sending product back to manufacturer..Fitting the lanyard to the bike was straightforward. Not expensive relative to other protection kit. I chose the Hi Vis over the alternative black as I wear Hi Vis normally.Read more
Heroes in a half shell
This is a real piece of kit. Very high quality well made. Fitted with a substantial back protector, that is at least 2" longer than the large one fitted to my Adventure jacket. It does have a bit of weight to the vest which you notice on the first wearing but this disappears on sitting on the bike and setting off down the road. It's very comfortable once on the move and you soon forget you're wearing it. You can also remove the back protection in your jackets as the one that's fitted to the vest is on the outside of the vest once deployed and therefore resemble a turtle. A bit of extra reassurance should the worst happen, although I think about that off the bike not on it. I did get the wrong size at first at 5'11" tall and 16 stone who wears a size XL T-shirt I went for the LL and it was like a tent, even when fastened as tight as it would go. So went for the L as the XL looked like it would be too long. The L is spot on and goes halfway down your bottom (as it's supposed to) and just rests on the seat when sat on the bike. Love it!Read more
Good quality materials and very well made. It feels a bit heavy to start with but I got used to it in no time. It has an integrated back protector so I don't have to wear my Forcefield under the jacket. So it actually makes it easier to move around on the bike.Read more
Safety is not a dirty word
Build quality and construction both look and feel spot on. The vest does take a bit of getting used to however I'm confident given time clipping and un-clipping will become second nature.... Much to amusement of my buddy who sat back and watched me almost activate the vest after getting fuel. The vest provides a great option, wear it don't wear it. For me this type of affordable technology is the future of motorcycling safety. This is not Batman's cape so if you think it will make you a better rider it won't. In summary - although untested in anger the vest already feels like standard apparel.Read more
Bright and comfy
On my first ride out, I found that the Velcro around the collar stuck to my helmet's lining (very frustrating and distracting). Having played with the alignment of the strips a little, I seem to have managed to cover it up enough that this is no longer a problem. I'm sure it'll return at some point though... Otherwise, it's comfy, bright, and I've already tried to get off the bike before detaching - luckily it needs more of a pull than that to go off!Read more
Safety is a must
Excellent product, well thought out and developed. Service brill as usual.Read more
Bright and comfortable
Very high vis. Comfortable and not restrictive. Easy to put on and connect. Thought it was a bit bulky and heavy at first but it's not noticeable on the bike. However it does fill a pannier if you can roll it up to fit.Read more

Questions and Answers
Hi, is the Helite Turtle Shell Inflatable Air Vest fully waterproof? Thanks, Mel.February 20, 2020
The Helite Turtle Shell Inflatable Air Vest is not listed as being fully waterproof. The air bag is water resistant however. It was designed for outdoor use and can be exposed to wet conditions (rain, UV rays).
Hi, I am wondering if the XLL jacket will be ok my measurements are all the XLL size except my height I am 171cm in heightMay 18, 2018
Referring to Helite's size guide, if you measure between 170-185cm in height, you should opt for the Large Vest or Large-L Vest (The extra -L means the chest and waist measurements are approximately 10-15cm bigger than the standard size).
Hi, is this machine washable? My kit tends to get filthy whilst riding on the motorways in winter.January 2, 2018
The Hi-viz yellow textile is very high-quality, so the colour is durable. However mosquitoes and grease need to be washed off, to keep a "new" yellow aspect. The airbag vest can be washed by hand without drowning the mechanical part of the system. We recommend that you energetically scrub with a brush in warm soapy water (no detergent, products may alter the fabric). Baby wipes are very effective. Do not rub hard on the retro-reflective grey parts. Washing machine and dryer are prohibited.
Can the protector be used more than once because you sell for the jacket Helite Replacement / Additional CO2 Canister?August 24, 2017
Yes, after an activation the canister can be replaced and the Helite Turtle Shell air vest can be used again.
