Customer Reviews for Drift Ghost 4K Action Camera

Not quite

A well built and sleek 1080 camera. Don't get me wrong, it does film 4k and 2.7k at 30 and 60 fps. Just that the image stabilisation is only for 1080 60fps. This is a sample of 4k at 30fps with Dfrit and here is a video with a much cheaper SJcam 2k at 30fps I wish I would have known...

Disappointing, a dash cam this is not....

Firstly, rating and review aside - SBS were once again spot on, I submitted a price match request out of office hours and at 9.07am the next day I received the price match coupon and a flawless transaction (as per the norm with SBS). Now, onto the review. Let me preface this by saying my sole use for a camera is to use a dash cam / insurance security, I am not a Blogger. I do occasionally burn short clips off but nothing major. Prior to purchasing the 4K I had a Drift Stealth 2, great little camera which did what I wanted it too. The only thing I could've asked for is filming 1080p at 60FPS and better compatibility with the Drift App. I bought myself a 4K after I thought my Stealth 2 was knackered (turns out I'm just a idiot). Unfortunately, video quality aside I think it is a step backwards for the purpose I want it for (Dash Cam / DVR use) On the Stealth 2, car DVR mode (recording continuously and then recording over old material once the card is full) was perfect. There was both a Auto and Manual mode. Auto mode meant that as soon as it detected a power source (say if it was plugged into a car lighter socket) it would automatically start recording and stop once the power source was removed. There was also a MANUAL Car DVR mode which was obviously more suited for bikers/cyclists. The settings are still the same, the camera will record continuously and overwrite the oldest footage when card is full - BUT you start and stop the recording yourself manually. On the 4K there is ONLY automatic DVR Mode meaning you have to always plug it into a power source. It does not work even if you put it into car DVR mode and start the recording yourself, once the card is full it will stop recording and give you a Card Full message. I ride throughout the year so having a power source plugged in is not practicable, nor should it be needed given that the Stealth 2 had the manual option, this is a step backwards as far as I'm concerned. Be warned that even if you do intend to use it with a power source, Car DVR Mode limits you to 1080P resolution at 30FPS which is exactly what the Stealth 2 is capable of. I could live with the resolution settings but the fact its limited to 30FPS was another disappointment (especially as it is marketed as a 4K camera). I had intended to use 60FPS so in the event of a accident it would be easier to pick out details from any footage. So as it stands I can only film a continuous clip, and once the card is full I have to manually format the memory card. This was another advantage of DVR mode, it would record at set intervals (10 minute clip then it would cut and start recording a new clip), this would make it easier to pinpoint footage rather than sift through an hours worth of footage for example. DVR mode aside, the camera is glitchy and settings often change. For example, Instant On and Off mode. I will turn this setting on (which lets you switch the camera on and start recording with one press of the power button rather than having to hold the button down and then press it again to start recording). I can activate the setting and it may work once or twice but once the camera switches the setting off. It meant I had to switch the camera on to check the setting was still on, which defeats the point. Then there is the issue of battery life, with a advertised 2.5hr battery time I obviously expected a bit less but at 1080p 60FPS I can barely get 2 hours. Yes it is possible to get other battery packs but again the 4K falls short of what the Stealth 2 can achieve. It is not all bad, one of the things the 4K does well with is the smartphone application. Playback is quick and smooth compared to the Stealth 2 which takes a long time for footage to buffer or load once you attempt to watch it on your phone. I will keep and continue using the 4k but its unfortunately been more a disappointment than improvement....

Still waiting on Drift for answers.

Straight off camera would not hold time or date. After many resets & 4 days later, it now holds date but not time. (time & date on recorded file) It also doesn't Stamp the recording. Am still waiting to here back from Drift. Also you can not connect an external mic in the rain. You can't turn off the back LCD on its own. Other than that the camera is Good.
