Helite Turtle Shell Inflatable Air Vest - High Viz
Customer Product Reviews
I should have got one of these a while back
This product will hopefully provide me with protection of the spine and neck should I ever get thrown from my bike. I am 5'10' with a 46 inch chest. I went for the XL and it fits a treat. You need to put your jacket on before measuring for size. I like the fact that should the air vest be activated that you can fit a new canister yourself for £20.as opposed to sending product back to manufacturer..Fitting the lanyard to the bike was straightforward. Not expensive relative to other protection kit. I chose the Hi Vis over the alternative black as I wear Hi Vis normally.
Heroes in a half shell
This is a real piece of kit. Very high quality well made. Fitted with a substantial back protector, that is at least 2" longer than the large one fitted to my Adventure jacket. It does have a bit of weight to the vest which you notice on the first wearing but this disappears on sitting on the bike and setting off down the road. It's very comfortable once on the move and you soon forget you're wearing it. You can also remove the back protection in your jackets as the one that's fitted to the vest is on the outside of the vest once deployed and therefore resemble a turtle. A bit of extra reassurance should the worst happen, although I think about that off the bike not on it. I did get the wrong size at first at 5'11" tall and 16 stone who wears a size XL T-shirt I went for the LL and it was like a tent, even when fastened as tight as it would go. So went for the L as the XL looked like it would be too long. The L is spot on and goes halfway down your bottom (as it's supposed to) and just rests on the seat when sat on the bike. Love it!
Good quality materials and very well made. It feels a bit heavy to start with but I got used to it in no time. It has an integrated back protector so I don't have to wear my Forcefield under the jacket. So it actually makes it easier to move around on the bike.
Safety is not a dirty word
Build quality and construction both look and feel spot on. The vest does take a bit of getting used to however I'm confident given time clipping and un-clipping will become second nature.... Much to amusement of my buddy who sat back and watched me almost activate the vest after getting fuel. The vest provides a great option, wear it don't wear it. For me this type of affordable technology is the future of motorcycling safety. This is not Batman's cape so if you think it will make you a better rider it won't. In summary - although untested in anger the vest already feels like standard apparel.
Bright and comfy
On my first ride out, I found that the Velcro around the collar stuck to my helmet's lining (very frustrating and distracting). Having played with the alignment of the strips a little, I seem to have managed to cover it up enough that this is no longer a problem. I'm sure it'll return at some point though... Otherwise, it's comfy, bright, and I've already tried to get off the bike before detaching - luckily it needs more of a pull than that to go off!
Bright and comfortable
Very high vis. Comfortable and not restrictive. Easy to put on and connect. Thought it was a bit bulky and heavy at first but it's not noticeable on the bike. However it does fill a pannier if you can roll it up to fit.
Excellent piece of safety equipment
This is a big chunk of vest. Its heavy with a substantial back protector and certainly not something you can pack up in a pannier for a dark rainy day. Comfortable to wear with excellent reflective strips. No problem with sizing, I'm an XL in all other clothing and the XL vest was just about right. Apart from the price, the only drawback is the back of the vest is very long and the neck on the vest impinges on the back of the helmet restricting some movement. Definite recommendation.
