Spada Aqua Quilt Waterproof Over Pants - Black
Customer Product Reviews
I had been looking for a pair of warm, waterproof overtrousers for my daily commute and these are perfect. I ride 5 days a week in all weather conditions and even in minus 2 these kept me warm. Very comfortable, leg zips are great. Simple elasticated waist - just ideal for my needs, however, the knee pads were bobbins (but I did not want them anyway) so they got removed. They are very supple so excellent for riding in (some water proofs can be quite stiff).
A solid purchase
I've had Spada stuff before and I've never been overly impressed. But with winter coming I wanted a lined pair of waterproof overpants and the choice is oddly slim. Thankfully these a pretty great in most ways. Most importantly they serve the two functions they're intended for. I stay dry and warm. Although true winter hasn't kicked in yet, I've been almost a little too warm on a morning ride at 4 degrees. I'd say that is a good sign. A lot of waterproof pants fail around the crotch, but not these. They don't leak and you can sit on a wet seat and ride without it coming through. The addition of knee protection is rare in these kind of pants and always a welcome option. The pads are a little rubbish, but you can easily switch them out for some nice D3Os. I thought the leg pocket looked goofy and could have done with being on the side of the leg, but again it's handy to have the extra space when caught out. Sizing is great and very adjustable. The zips work well on the bottom to help get them on and off and they haven't ever ridden up over the boot while riding. The only thing I'm marking them down for is lack of durability. The packaging said they should be rip resistant and after having them only one day I got side swiped by a small truck while filtering and it hit my leg and tore two holes in the pants. I was pretty gutted but managed to sew them up. Why is it that nobody does overpants with the same level of protection as normal bike pants? I'd happily pay more for it too. But that is a small niggle as I wear Kevlar jeans under them. My only other gripe is that they could use a patch of grippy material on the butt like my Held ones do. It's no fun sliding around on your seat during hard breaking. Overall a great product that I would happily buy again.
Warm and dry
Very warm indeed but not too bulky. Bottom leg zips easy to use, no zip jams. Good fit over boots, leg length spot on. Useful draw string internally though not needed as elasticated waist is tight. Up to now very waterproof, though not had them very long. Mine were medium which is right size in trousers for me, the fit is good over jeans or trousers so do not go a size up-- order what fits you normally. Will update after 3 months. As of now, recommended. for easy every day use.
Better than expected
The over trousers are better than expected. For a cheaper alternative there is a lot of quilting, perhaps too much, and knee armour. The knee armour, however, is not exactly where my knees are, but I can rest assured knowing my shins are perfectly safe. Overall quality is good, they come up baggy but considering you will typically have a layer under them this isn't a bad thing. Overall, good for the price.
Better than expected
I expected the trousers that are thin with just a small amount of insulation but these are thick. Although it's not what I was intending to buy I will keep it as it is perfect for long trips in the Winter and I believe it's good value for money. I haven't tested it yet in rain though but looks good quality. The protective pads are not well aligned with the knees.
