Nolan N87 Classic N-Com - Metal White
Customer Product Reviews
Good for the price
I haven't gone through many helmets, but based on my experience I think this is average. I used it on a 3 days weekend tour to France, riding for at least 6 hours each day. I didn't find it very comfortable around my ears, there was too much pressure. The top air vents didn't feel like they were letting much air into the helmet, as even at speeds didn't feel cool air coming in. The visor and pin lock worked well, the sun visor great feature. noise level rather high. Removable liners is great to give it a wash. Good and detailed instruction manual. The strap easy to operate but not comfortable around the throat, I am used to double D straps. It is a light helmet.
Great helmet for a great price
Having owned the helmet for a few weeks now I feel like I can give an honest review. I decided to go for this helmet as I wanted to reduce the weight as I am used to wearing flip front helmets. The helmet is relatively quiet but I do wear ear plugs. In my opinion Nolan do some of the best colour schemes and this one is no exception. Its a shame it doesn't have the D ring retention system as I would have preferred this. The visor seems pretty solid and the detents appear to be well placed. Comes with pin lock fitted, although mine was slightly scratched SBS sent a new one out free of charge. As usual a great service by SBS.
Good comfortable fit with no point pressure anywhere. Fantastic for glasses wearers, it does require removing the cheek liners and tearing out foam, but well worth it. Unusually it comes with the Pinlock insert already fitted, and the 7-position internal sun visor is a useful touch. Reasonably quiet, but earplugs still needed to fully cut out the wind noise.
Good integrated communication system
Bought two of these helmets with the N-Com B601R twin pack comms system. They replaced my aged N86 system. The sound quality of the comms is very good and there is virtually no wind noise. Linking to my phone was easy and I use the bluetooth feature to listen to radio, sat nav and music from my phone. I like the low profile of the comms on the helmet and the way the speakers and microphone fit with ready made channels for them. The helmet itself has a comfortable lining and good ventilation, it's also lightweight on your head and carrying. The internal visor is good and just dark enough for sunny days. I prefer the strap mechanism over D lock types as its easier with gloves on to use. If you want a helmet for passenger comms or just listen to your sat nav/phone radio this is a great setup at a reasonable price. Sportsbike shop service was excellent as ever.
Attractive good value
The helmet is good for the price comfortable and the dark visor is great. My only concern is were the visor is the forehead of the the helmet deforms but I guess this is due to the double shell so I'm guessing this is absolutely fine
had agv will not buy again this helmet is miles better great fit and dose not leak like previous helmet. its quiet and such a snug fit. i wanted a chaz davies helmet and the colours are bright and vision is excellent will deffo buy another one when needed great sportsbike service as usual. some shops could take a leaf outa there books
Justifies Best Buy Rating
I changed from a Shoei GT Air to the Nolan N87 and have been using it for a month. In summary I would say it offers the quality and all the main features of the Shoei at half the price or better. Fit, finish, comfort, ventilation, sun-visor, visor and pinlock are all excellent. The only safety feature it lacks is the pull-out chin pads. The split chin curtain is a great innovation: your neck tube will stay up covering your neck when you put the N87 on. The micro-ratchet chin strap may not suit everyone but I understand even Shoei have gone that way with the GT Air II. No regrets at all about choosing the N87.
Noisey but comfy
Really nice fitting helmet, light, easy to use visor, brilliant chin strap but it's not the quietest of helmets at speeds above 60mph (in fact it stops me going above 60 it's that loud!) and the vent that flows air to your mouth area isn't the best, recirculating your bad bike breath mainly. I wish I had spent more with one of the top brands but it's an OK mid range helmet I have a Shoei xr1000 which is very old, it's lighter, quieter and more aerodynamic. If I had realised how bad this Nolan is I wouldn't of dropped down in brands! Instead of a Nolan, wait for a top brand helmet to sell on offer (even if you don't like the design) and I promise you will be better off. Even if it's bright pink at least your ears won't bleed.
Very comfortable but noisy
This is my second helmet so comparing with a good AGV K4 which I've used for 5 years. I prefer quick release but this one is more fiddly than the AGV. The fit of the helmet is great once on. Very comfortable although it will drag down your neck warmer as it goes on. The pin lock is great and the visor is easy to use. The integral sun visor is also very easy to use even with thick winter gloves. I find the helmet is much noisier the the AGV when riding a sports bike so ear plugs recommended. But if you stand up and get away from the turbulence of the fairing the noise reduces so I would expect this helmet better suited to a naked bike. Overall I believe this helmet is well made and good value for money.
