Shoei RYD - Matt Blue Metal
Customer Product Reviews
Good touring helmet.
This replaced an older Shoei that I have been very pleased with. Fit is fantastic. Snug with no movement. Large visor with Pinlock. Good ventilation. I use sunglasses to ride with which comfortably slide into position. I also like the emergency pull tab feature to release the inner pads in the event of an accident. Although I hope its never used!
Excellent fit, no pressure points anywhere feels like it was made for me and no one else. Vision is excellent no dodgy pinlock line around edge. Forgot to wear my ear plugs first time out, and didn't realise, it's so quiet. I also like the way the visor snaps shut and seals or not if you chose not to.
Excellent For Real World Riding
I was looking for a new helmet that would suit general day to riding use on my super naked and the Shoei RYD from the reports I could find on the internet suggested it would be a good buy. Having made the purchasing the decision the helmet arrived next day and really blew my socks off with the quality of fit, finish and overall design. It comes with an anti fog insert as standard and after riding a couple of hundred miles my only mild niggle is it can be loud at high speed as the vents create a reasonable level of roar, but easily resolved with ear plugs. I can also easily get my driving glasses on through the visor aperture so all in all it's been an excellent purchase and great value for money. Well done Shoei and Sportsbike shop.
What a great fit this helmet is. Pinlock fitted by the very helpful staff in store. I may have chosen too big a helmet if not for them. The colour is stunning. What can I say, the usual Shoei quality and comfort. The Ryd has a very reassuring 5 star Sharp rating too. Tried an HJC before but couldn't really get on with it, comfort wise. So splurged on this but I don't regret it.
Feels like I've owned it for years
My first Shoei helmet and I've got to say very pleased so far. The best way I can describe it is, it doesn't feel new! Straight away it feels like I've been wearing it for years, comfortable, quiet, light. If this is entry level I can't wait til I upgrade!! Highly recommended
Very good helmet
Lightweight, quiet, comfortable and reasonably priced. My previous helmet was a Shoei GT Air which was good but the RYD is better, it's lighter, much more comfortable especially where the strap is located, and around the cheek pads, it flows a lot more air, is very stable and at £300 is very well priced. Shoei call this a budget helmet but nothing could be further from the truth it's a premium lid
Shoei quality for less.
My previous helmet was an NXR (Shoei always seem to suit my head shape) but the RYD gives the same levels of quality, and an extra Sharp star, for less money. Not warm enough to open the vents yet but no problems with condensation, I transferred the NXR's deflector which may help. Some wind noise but not too intrusive. Lifesavers slightly impaired by the edges of the Pinlock but otherwise a good wide view. The embossed lettering is a classy touch!
Firstly, I haven't been able to use riding yet because it is winter here in Michigan, USA. But from what I've seen and read about the helmet, it's a very safe and comfortable helmet. It fits a bit tight but I'm happy about that because when reading the other reviews, it was mentioned a few times that it does stretch out inside in the padding, after awhile so I think it will end up being more than perfect. I've had a lot of helmets in my 20 years of riding, and I must say that this is the very best one I've ever had. A lot of safety features and you can just tell by the weight and the way it's made that it is a high quality helmet. I feel so blessed to have won this for the 12 days of Xmas and to be the first winner in the USA. Thank you very much. This summer I will definitely leave another review on how it feels during riding, etc.
Very light out of the box with lovely fit, although it seems to have loosened up a little- around the back of my head, extremely quiet up to 80/90 kph but then suddenly gets loud over that. Superb vision from visor but really missing the drop down sunglasses from my previous hjc. Will definitely be investing in colour changing pinlock in future, also breath guard (shoei type f)is not included but chin curtain is.Overall I really like the feel, vision and look of this lid and the fact that it's a 5 Star Sharp rating
Quality helmet that is light and comfortable to wear. Quieter than my previous helmet (ARAI) and has much better ventilation. The Pinlock was easy to fit in place as was the chin skirt that prevents drafts. I purchased a small (55-56cm) and it fits perfectly. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase.
I recently purchased an HJC IS17 but the wind and road noise were dreadful. I had come from a Shoei Raid 2 which I had for 10 years so opted to get this Ryd and its miles ahead in terms of quality compared to both. At motorway speeds it's quieter than the HJC compared to say 30mph. It's very light and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and they've done a fantastic job with the visor. You can't see the edges of the top or bottom of the helmet when it's on so its truly as if you are wearing a wrap around visor, it's brilliantly clear and provides a great field of vision around the sides. The vents provide extremely good ventilation especially the chin vent from the second it's open it provides a rush of air upwards. I highly recommend this helmet for the price I'd say it offers unbeatable spec.
Happy with my helmet
The Shoei RYD is really comfortable. I had a Shoei Hornet DS for my previous bike, and the XL sizing wasn't quite as snug as I'd have liked, but the RYD is spot on for me. Maybe down to the style of lid... Airflow is brilliant, and you can feel the air being drawn out of the back away from your head. I did notice when I shut the chin vent on the motorway that a tiny amount of condensation gathered on the visor below the pinlock. Might mean I need to reposition it. Ears have plenty of space inside, although I did find it a bit noisy upwards of 60mph. No wind protection on my bike though. Will probably try ear plugs with it. Overall though, it's really well constructed and comfortable, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Basalt Grey finish is lovely, and a dark tint visor makes it look even better.
