Merlin Horizon Outlast Textile Jacket - Black
Customer Product Reviews
Fit well and the construction seems spot on. The sizing runs a little large if anything. Could really do with a few more pockets, especially inside the jacket. Think this was remedied with its replacement. Waterproof as much as any textile under 150 can be esp with the liner in place. Really well ventilated and the colour is a change from the usual Black / Flouro...
I wish I'd found this jacket earlier! Way better fit and function than my Alpinestars Jaws jacket. Tested in all day rain (without the inner waterproof jacket in) and very hot weather recently and it performed well in both. The chest pockets and back open up to reveal mesh that keeps you very cool in hot humid weather. Close them up and it was water resistant enough to keep me dry in prolonged heavy showers. The inner jacket is *way* too warm for me - which means in very cold weather it'll be perfect. Lots of great design details; removable neck gaiter (very comfy), two way zips at the cuff, cuffs cinch tight enough to go under gloves, adjustments all over to improve fit, useful external pockets (none inside without the inner jacket) including rear rabbit pouch, great fit. I bought large as I do usually and it's fits perfectly (6'2", 13 stone, 42" chest). Great piece of kit, amazing value, I'll be buying more of their gear in future I think!
This product is very well made very good quality material I also I also like the optional breathing vents you can have open or closed I do have the trousers to go with it they are excellent as well I definitely recommend this
Great bit of kit
Functionality of the jacket is great, fit for me is ideal. This is my second Merlin jacket and the quality appears as good as my first, so I'm expecting it to last. Only ridden in warmer weather and the front vents are reasonably effective.
Really pleased with the jacket so bought the trousers too. It's a heavy jacket, but feels very well put together. Multiple layers also appear good quality, excellent windproof at motorway speeds. It's described as grey, but I'd say it's a more cream colour. Great discounted price and next day delivery.
Great product, Warm and really..really comfortable
Great product, Warm and really....really comfortable. I have ridden in -6 and did not even feel feel cool inside. I am glad to choose Merlin. Warm, Safe, Secure and all weather jacket.
Great jacket for all year use!
This jacket was my first Merlin product I've bought and it hasn't disappointed yet. Warm, versatile and comfortable. I really like the way the waterproof & thermal layers are both removable and interchangeable, so you can simply use whatever is more necessary for the conditions. The outer fabric seems durable and repels water well. I can confirm that the waterproof liner inside does stop you from getting wet and does have a nice high collar you can fasten which keeps you even warmer. The vents are *HUGE* front & back so I can see this jacket being nice and cool during Summer, too. Reflective details are a nice touch and it really is a smart jacket, as motorcycle jackets go. Personally it's the best fitting jacket I've owned, however as I'm 5 foot nothing it is a tad long at the back (stops draughts I guess!). My only real gripe is the lack of internal pockets. There is one pocket which is attached to the thermal liner, so if this isn't in, you've no internal pocket. With everything being outside there's a chance of damp getting in so just bear that in mind. I'd definitely recommend this jacket though and so far it's proving it's worth during daily use.
Extremely Good Quality and a British Brand
I couldn't find many reviews for this jacket, but gave it a go as I have a set of Merlin Gloves which are fantastic quality for the money. This Jacket doesn't disappoint! The fit and finish is top notch, plenty of easily accessible storage for phones, wallets gloves etc. The shoulder and elbow pads are CE rated but back protector not.. easily remedied however and not a deal breaker at this price point. lots of nice touches like tabs to keep the liner in the sleeves when you pull your arms out and zips are easy to use with gloves on. I also live in Wales, so this jacket has seen its fair share of rain and performed brilliantly, especially with the collar seal.
4-Season Bliss! Love it.
This jacket looks and fits better in person than the websites can convey. The size run large, so you'll likely need to order one size down (I'm 6'2", 200lbs and the large fits me perfectly). The venting is the biggest selling point, as it's very hot where I live. I was surprised at how cool (literally speaking) this jacket stays. The materials used seem to be of high quality, and I expect this jacket to last me a very long time. The back protector is just a cheap foam insert you'll need to replace, but the arm and shoulder pads are CE-rated armor. The branding & logos look great, and aren't too "loud" - just enough to make you proud to be wearing a Merlin. Apparently this is last years model, but I'd grab it while you can because to me it looks to be a far better jacket that the newest model meant to replace this Horizon jacket. It was sold out & out of stock in the US, so I had to order mine from the UK. Overall, I really love it and I'm so glad I got while I could. Cheers!
Well engineered and constructed jacket
Have had this jacket since December '18; it's a well constructed, excellent for the price, jacket that compares extremely well with other more expensive items I've owned previously and it's British. All fastenings, zips, Velcro etc robust and up to the job, with the outer pocket zips having 'fatter' round handles for want of a better word that make it easier to find and pull with winter gloves on... a nice touch; to help further I slip on small stainless steel key-rings on all outer zips which make them easier to find, grab and hold when wearing gloves and a helmet wish manufacturers would do this. The Outlast inner (removable) liner was well up to the -5 degree ambient riding conditions we've had earlier in the year, just needing a thermal base layer and thin fleece to cope with a 45 minute each way commute. The waterproof liner (again removable) is waterproof, keeping me dry and warm through a few heavy downpours. The zip open chest and back vents look like they're going to be effective come the warmer months as they're large and have a mesh backing (unlike some jackets I've had that just open a layer) so should allow a free flow of air through; also a nice touch is the inclusion of a small hook on the collar that allows it to be opened and fastened back for when it gets warm. The collar its self is very comfortable lined with neoprene and very adjustable unlike others I've had. The only minor criticism I have is that the inner pockets are integral with the liner(s) and when removed there's no inner pocket; I'd like one to be available on the outershell when liners removed, but, I could see that would possibly interfere with the venting; but, come drier months the outer pockets are more than up to stashing the necessary stuff. One final point is that this suit ('cause I've got the jacket and troos) crashes well, as I've just had an altercation with white van man who punted me off and then scarpered and but for a couple of cracked ribs and bust ankle, it looks as fresh as did when it came out of the bag... nice; in fact the emergency services kept remarking on how it was a good bit of kit and that they'd struggle to have cut it off; which, needless to say I forbade them to do. Sorry it got a bit anecdotal at the end; but, I'm very happy and impressed with this Jacket and I'd recommend it and Merlin to anyone who's looking for a vfm well constructed, well thought out mid-price jacket by a manufacturer that obviously knows motorcycling; well chuffed.
