Caberg Duke II Legend - Black / White
Customer Product Reviews
Punches above its weight...
...or my RPHA 70 is overpriced, one of the two! I'll compare it to my HJC RPHA.... which is a truly superb helmet, but over twice the price. Weight - feel about the same, but although the numbers suggest the RPHA is lighter, the Duke feels lighter on. Comfort - The RPHA is more snug fitting, better padding and more of it (obviously because it's not flip up). BUT - the Duke is extremely comfortable to wear for hours on end. Fit - I'm right on the edge of M and L in fitting, so I go for M sizes to make sure it's snug. This is bang on the money for me. A large would rattle I think. Vision/Visor - Not quite as open view as the RPHA but I can see everything I need to. Peripheral vision is good. The pinlock is a must though, fogs up very quickly without it I found. (Wish I'd know the insert was in the box already..now I have a spare pinlock 30 I don't need). HOWEVER - the smallest fixed opening is a bit too wide for when you just want a little air in. You can just about crack it open but it will close at speed. Open it a bit more and you can't see properly. Not a deal breaker but worth knowing. Noise - bit quieter than the RPHA I'd say, not a huge amount but noticeable. This will be my go to touring helmet (on a Triple S at 6'2" with a PUIG screen) Sun visor - Much prefer the mechanism on the Duke. The RPHA is bit fiddly but I find the Duke is way easier to use. You basically just wipe the top of your head from back to front. Visor is excellent as well. Venting - Meh. Haven't tested it in real heat yet but the options are limited and there's no exhaust ports. Chinbar is always open (to defog the visor...it doesn't) and then there's just the top vent - open or closed. Flip up mechanism - solid as. Really good and locks in well with the P/J switch. Wee bit fiddly to open and close but you get used to it. Fitting extras (camera/headset) - Camera is fine on a flat adhesive mount (Drift). Not really any obvious places for Sena speakers to go though (unlike the RPHA). I got them in ok but it was a faff finding the right place. Overall - feels very plastic compared to the RPHA, there's a clear difference in build quality and materials....but for less than half the price I am blown away by how good it is. Five star SHARP rating is actually better than the RPHA...and that is after all the main reason for helmets...safety....and bug collecting. Genuinely excellent helmet and it looks good. Well worth the small investment!
Caberg Duke 2 Flip Front Helmet
Bought this having had one a few years ago. They are well built and came with a pin lock insert which has improved in shape and size since I last had one and is great as I ride all year round. Helmet is comfortable although I bought a size bigger than I would normally wear because I dont like my chin touching the front of the chin guard. A little more noisy than a full face but that is to be expected. Visor leaked a little in heavy rain but not bad enough to block vision and no worse than other vastly more expensive helmets that I've had. All in all great value for money.
Everything I require from a flip up helmet. I measured as advised and purchased a Small it fits perfect. Also I've noticed it feels lighter than my previous Duke. A little bit noisy but to be expected with a flip up but not too intrusive and I ride anyway with earplugs for day rides. Comes with a free pinlock visor insert drop down sun shield 5star rated and therefore would recommend as excellent quality and value for money.
Good helmet - bit difficult for a 'big chin'
Quality, great. Comfort, great. Functionality, great, Looks, great. Ticks nearly box. Only downfall, like a number of people have mentioned is, if you're trying to lock the flip up lid back down when riding, it can be a little bit difficult to get it locked in, as your chin seems to get in the way. I find it easy to lock when you have two hands free though. I think I'll just live with this minor gripe, as even though it isn't locked shut- it doesn't bounce around or move up and down. So it doesn't really make much of a difference.
Great all rounder
I was looking for a modular helmet with pin lock and some hi vis sections, and this helmet fits the bill without breaking the bank. The 5 star SHARP rating also makes it a worthwhile contender even aginst more expensive competitors. The only downsides I see are wind noise at higher speed and potentially strap comfort for some people, but it's OK for me. I would buy this again
Duke is King
I already have a Duke and bought this one for my wife who had an old Caberg Trip that needed replacing. My wife loves it. Fits well. Reassurance of 5 star safety rating from sharp. Came with a free clear pin lock visor insert (worth £30) easy to fit with pins already in place on the helmet. Great value and recommend
Can't beat a Caberg
I find for a modular lid, you can't beat a Caberg. This one is 5 star SHARP rated - so already a good start. Add to that it's really comfortable, a sturdy design and good stiff lifting and locking mechanisms - you definitely won't be worried about it being too flimsy. The internal sun visor is an absolute God send - and almost worth it just for that. Add to all that a very reasonable price tag, really, what more could you ask for?! I can highly recommend this lid - and for that matter, SBS. Superb service as always.
A tad noisy but good otherwise
Get a fair bit of wind noise to the level of it all but drowning out the engine/exhaust (these aren't loud anyway mind) plus over 60mph if I look to the right, a whistle starts up by my left ear. Fit is good, it came with a pinlock insert, it looks really good to my eyes, has good visibility and the wind curtain has been invaluable of late.
A good quality helmet that fits really well. Also, as others have said it's so very quiet with minimal wind noise. There is good all round vision and the Pinlock system really helps with cold weather visibility. I took me a while to get used to the opening method for the flip up but that's only because the release button is in a different place to my last one. I can most certainly recommend this helmet
My second Caberg Duke hat
Very good helmet at an excellent price. Has a 5 star safety rating on SHARP. I bought white after attending a "Biker Down" course and being told by the Fire Service that white is the safest colour for visibilty. Practical for all weathers with a pinlock insert for cold & wet weather, it can be used open with the dark internal visor down when it gets really hot. Very convenient at fuel stops and peages etc as the flip up front means you don't need to take off the helmet. I have fitted an Interphone Sport comms unit to it, a tight fit but it works well.
Not so good for the big chinned gentleman
Seemed like a well made helmet with all the features and felt very sturdy light and easy to use but the fit was just so wrong for me the chin bar came down and I had to squash my head in to get it to lock shut. So a bit of a shame as it seems like a good lid but far to narrow for me and I didn't like my chin touching the front of the helmet great service as usual from sportsbike
