Shoei GT Air - Fable
Customer Product Reviews
This is my first Shoei helmet, my previous helmet was a Shark Speed R. The build and finish of the helmet are of a very high quality. The inner padding and liner are extremely comfortable and again you can fell the difference in quality. The sun visor works well and is easy to operate. The vents are good especially the top one. The only slight negative is I wear glasses and it is quite difficult to get them on, it was very easy with the Shark. The helmet is also not as quiet as I expected having read other reviews. Overall a very good helmet which I would recommend.
Second Shoei in 14 years
I bought a Shoei when I first passed my test so it was due for replacement. (still works fine and will be a spare). The GT Air has a much bigger viewing area and the Pinlock is much better. I retro fitted one before. The flip down sun visor is ace and means no need to get another visor - although i might simply for looks. The inside is plush and easy to remove. There are cut outs for speakers which I installed my Sena SMH5 into. The cutouts are very marginally too small but the speakers still fitted without any alterations. Wind noise is reduced but not completely gone - I didn't expect it to go. The 3 vents are there but only the top one offers a breeze inside the lid. I am finding I get a draught on the back of my neck but I will experiment with snood placement and also the screen on my bike tends send air into that area so I'm not faulting the helmet. The screen is tricky to remove and replace but with practice will get easier. It has reduced turbulence compared to my old lid and is much lighter. The graphics are brilliant.
Quiet and light
Light, quiet and stable. On my 1200RT the helmet is very stable at high motorway speeds. This was why I changed from an HJC RPHA ST. The Shoei is better in all areas, it is quieter with less of a "booming" sound when the screen is up. It is lighter on the head and shoulder checks are very easy due to the wide eye port. All in all, very happy.
Cool design, safe feeling
The helmet fits very well, it is definitely a quiet helmet, you hear the motor running but almost no wind. I love the design, especially with the white racing stripe and the little redline details. I had to buy it in UK because in Belgium it was sold out (for a good reason). Fast delivery from Sportsbikeshop for a reasonable price. The helmet feels safe and that's one of the most important issues when you ride a bike.
Very comfortable, quiet and the built in sun visor is extremely helpful. I use this with a Sena intercom, having the incorporated space for the speakers is an excellent feature, it saves compromising the structure to incorporate, unlike other helmets I've had in the past.
So far so good
Cant fault this lid so far! Fits very well, low noise when on motorways. Drop down visor works very well. Easy to set up interphone system, fits in a NC750X frunk (size large), all the great quality materials you would expect from such a lid. One thing I would suggest is removing the chin curtain if its raining to allow good airflow otherwise the Pinlock can get a bit misty but remove the curtain and its superb.
Neat and quiet fit
Neat fit over my head, but once on feels very snug and comfy. I recently purchased a Scala rider G9X Coms unit and with the combination of the ear speakers and this neat fitting Shoei helmet, for the first time in years, I don't need ear plugs! Very happy with this helmet, which was purchased after reading these other reviews...
Definitely quieter than my old Shoei
Great helmet, slightly tight when I first tried it on but after a weekend's riding it has bedded in nicely. Definitely quieter than my old Shoei XR1000. Drop down sun visor works very well. Love the matt black finish but it is prone to finger print marks. Recommended!
Great piece of kit. Shoei GT Air, Regalia TC2. My commute is 1.5 hrs each way, very comfortable helmet. Brilliant idea to have sun shades built in, no more breaking sunglasses. I thought it was also a good idea by Shoei to go back to the old style chin strap with metal rings other than fumbling about for a quick release buckle. I have always used Shoei and Sportsbikeshop did it at a very good price and very prompt delivery.
