Garmin Sat-Nav - Zumo 396LMT-S EU
Customer Product Reviews
Excellent Garmin sat nav
Having reviewed many sat navs & taken advice from those in the know, I purchased the garmin zoumo 396. A great piece of kit for enthusiastic bikers wanting to tour. Really easy to use, links to my coms and phone via bluetooth simultaneously and works superbly with My route lab. The touch screen works really well with my winter bike gloves on.A really good alround sat nav. Covers european countries aswel.
I have been a garmin user for several days. After the first attempts he did quite well. The construction of the device looks solid, easy to install, the screen responds well to touch even with gloves. Very good visibility in the sun. The maps are clear and legible, precise route planning. Garmin surprised me very positively when planning a route, it does it in a few seconds. I recommend this model to other new users.
Compact motorcycle sat nav
Due to the C-19 lockdown i have been unable to test the accuracy of the sat nav but it's Garmin so that wont be an issue. The unit is nice and compact so does not clutter the bike and fits nicely into a jacket pocket when not in use. The box comes with everything you need to fit to a bike or car and is easy to assemble and seems sturdy and secure. Logs straight onto home WIFI which makes updating a doddle and connected straight to my phone with ease which enables live traffic updates on the unit amongst other things. The quality seems good as you would expect from any Garmin product. So far so good, If you are looking for a compact quality sat nav then i would highly recommend.
Another quality Garmin product
This Garmin is as top quality as all of their previous satnavs that I have bought. It is really easy to install and easy to find your way around all the various features. The only small gripe that I have is that it I have a Navihalter satnav mount on the bike and it is impossible to fit the Garmin satnav holder to it without modifying it as the new Garmin holder mounts horizontally. The Garmin itself has lots of features that you will probably never use but these can all be turned off individually in the settings. All in all, I'm very pleased with it. Also the usual amazing service from Sportsbikeshop. Ordered it on a Sunday afternoon and it arrived Monday Morning.
A little frustrated
Very similar to the old Garmin so familiar to use. The very frustrating part of the mounting bracket haven't already got the bass part wired into the bike the clip on the back of the satnav was set at 90° to the old one nobody seems to make bracket to fit the Ducati multi Strada or any other bike and I had to re-drill and tap the standard Garmin want to get it to fit on unless of course I'm missing out on something something let me know
Superb Sat Nav
I bought this to replace a Zumo 590 and overall am very pleased with it. Fitting was easy, it has lots of useful features and is very easy to see in all weathers. I have 2 minor niggles - the incident notification system is too sensitive and can't be switched off; and music sharing with my Sena 20s through the Zumo is not always reliable but I've only had it 2 weeks and may be causing the problem. When it works it's fine.
Great price and delivery from Sportsbikeshop I have previously used the Zumo 550 and 390. The 396 is a major step forward from both of these models with its rugged design and a host of new functions which both aid and assist the rider. Love the facility to update latest maps through WiFi. Easy to plan and load routes using Base-Camp but I am a bit old-school and prefer and still use Mapsource which loads onto 396 with no problems. Attaching it to my FJR was easy once I confirmed with Garmin that the inline fuse was integral with the new shaped power-cord. Great piece of kit.
Excellent piece of kit
Great purchase I bought it because I went to Whitley bay could not find my way for ages .also got speeding ticket on same day now with sat nav went back got out first time .tells you where speeding cameras are and school zones. Best buy I've made great bit of kit excellent
The Zumo 396 replaced my Zumo 550 which still works fine but is getting a little long in the tooth having purchased it in 2008. At that time Gamin promoted the ability of the 550 to follow a pre-planned route prepared using Mapsource on your PC. Unfortunately, the manual for the 396 doesn't give any instructions regarding following a pre-planned route and I discovered that the 396 changed most routes that had been planned using Basecamp so I had to find out from the internet how to stop this happening. More info from Garmin would have been helpful. The Zumo 396 is a much more compact unit and has a faster processor and more detailed maps with free lifetime updates which was one of the reasons for my purchase. Sportsbikeshop offered it at a very competitive price and it arrived within 48 hours so really pleased as always with the service that I received from them.
Mostly Better than TomTom
The device is much much quicker than the TomTom I replaced with it. The areas where the TomTom is better: - Speed Cameras - Upcoming Petrol Stations - Aesthetic/Visual (personal preference) - Can easily switch to a portrait mode However from my couple weeks experience of using the Zumo, it is better in pretty much every other way than the TomTom.
The unit itself is a great bit of kit. Battery life so far has been on average, about 2 1/2 hours. If using the holder device that comes with the unit to attach it to your handle bars, then my only negative is that unless you have it hard wired into the bike (comes with the relevant cable) you cannot charge the unit on the go. The reason being is the 12v and USB cable do not fit through the hole on the back of the clip that holds the sat' nav' in place. I have emailed Garmin, as maybe not everybody wants to hard wire it. The 12v cable is just for people who use the device in the car and USB for mains or PC/laptop charging. Regarding sunlight, it will take some on the go adjustment on occasions dependant upon where you have the unit located on your bike. Overall though, this is a good device and delivery etc was great.
