Kovix KAL Alarmed Disc Lock - Brushed Metal
Customer Product Reviews
Quieter than I thought
It's solid, heavy and easy to use. I've had no false alarms. The alarm isn't as loud as I expected. If anything, the beeps that sound before the alarm are louder. Perhaps it's 120db if measured right next to the lock, but I'm not sure how well that sound would travel and if it would do a good job of waking you up at night.
Good quality lock
Initial impression is the build quality. Solid and compact I'm really hoping it will work as well as it looks. The alarm itself is quite loud, enough to act as a deterrent before anyone gets chance to try and get through it. Pretty straightforward to arm and disarm.
Sturdy alarmed lock
A really sturdy alarmed lock, easy to use and to understand when armed/disarmed via audible beeps. The alarm itself is loud, but not REALLY loud, I'd say it's enough to serve as a deterrent, but you might not hear it inside - for comparison, it's not as audible, as say a car horn - but given the size of the unit, I think it'd be unreasonable to expect much more. The lock certainly feels substantial, and is a fairly heavy chunk of metal; whilst I'm sure to the most determined of criminals, like any disc lock, I doubt it would offer much resistance; again, it's certainly enough to keep a more opportunistic thief at bay. Aside from the loudness of the alarm, the only real negative that I've noticed is the lack of anywhere for a reminder cable, except for within the disk slot itself - In my particular case I can't fit the reminder between the disk and the lock body, so I have to put it on the outside of the locking pin, which works but is obviously not ideal. All in all, I still give the lock 5/5
Excellent disc lock and alarm
Excellent disc lock and alarm .... so far!! Little bit tricky procedure to disarm but once you get familiar and get the hang of it pretty easy. Not sure how long the battery will last but fingers crossed from previous reviews and looks easy enough to change.V Good price from Sportsbikeshop too!
I bought this for my sons bike as its pin was the right size to fit through the disk, if possible I would have bought the bigger pin version as I also have the 14mm pin version which is very strong for my bike and arms in a different manner that I have been using for some time with no problems. the different arming type is the 6mm pin version arms as soon as you press the pin in even with out the key in, as for mine the 14mm pin version you can only lock it with the key in and it senses the disc between the slot or it wont arm stops false tigers when not in use, also the pin has securing slot on the end. both good units.
What A Little Cracker!!
I've been using the Xena14 for the past 3 years and although it's done the expected job, recently, the alarm just triggers constantly, under my seat, whilst I'm riding (the vibrations of the bike sets it off). which of course, kills the batteries. So, I thought I'd give the Kovix brand a try. So far, so good. Feels good and works as expected. But, I'll give it at least 6 months before I will find out if its reliable or not. But, for now, thumbs-up!
3rd time lucky
After receiving 2 of these where I was unable to undo the battery compartment screw, Mark at Sportsbikeshop tried a couple in the warehouse and with a better tool, managed to loosen one for me. Apart from that, a great disc lock. Easy to put in place and the alarm is just loud enough, a good deterrent.
Sturdy lock and very loud
Seems like a sturdy lock and bike hasn't been stolen yet so looks like it's doing its job. Accidentally set off the alarm and it is extremely loud - enough to wake up the neighbours. I got the 6 mm locking pin and it fits nicely in the small holes in my rear disc lock. It doesn't come with a reminder cable though.
