Simpson Darksome Solid - Matt Black
Customer Product Reviews
Coming from Shoei Neotec. I like this helmet more in every aspect. Better style, comfort and price. Very happy with purchase. Looks even better with mirror or gold face shield. On fit - I measured 62cm and it the XL fit perfectly. I would say if you're on the lower end of the size chart recommendation, go with the size smaller.
Simpson darksome helmet 1st review
Night the darksome helmet, because I always wanted a new simpson that was road legal as I borrowed 1 in the 80's that wasn't Really nice helmet with built in sun visor which is really good. The flip front is a bonus cause I wear glasses & it's easier to put my glasses on with the flip up. Wind noise isn't too bad but I do wear ear plugs anyway The only thing so far about the helmet I don't like as with nearly all helmets I've had is that they don't have a slight cut out in the foam lining for glasses as they do for intercom ear pieces.
Lightweight, Comfortable and great field of vision. The flow of air through the vents and the unobstructed wide field of vision is fantastic! I usually wear open face but for my job need full face flip front and this is about as close to wearing an open face helmet feeling I have ever had wearing a full face helmet. The unobstructed peripheral vision is the best I have ever had in a full face. I would buy another in a heart beat fantastic helmet
Brilliant helmet, reasonably priced and worth the money. After wearing for a few short rides, fits like a glove, so comfortable. Really impressed. Bit of noise so could get annoying on longer rides. Flip face is a real winner and it still looks mean. One tip: if you're a large, get this in medium, the sizings on Simpson's often come up big - happened to me and I had to send the L one back and get M (which was seamless with SBS, as always)
Once again Sportsbikeshop go above and beyond to help a customer and get me the helmet I wanted at warp speed . On arrival I was surprised by how much Simpson have put into this helmet even to the point that they have already put in cut outs for speakers and wiring for your Bluetooth headset so once fitted they don't dig in like on some helmets . Although not the quietest helmet for wind noise it's far from being the worst and being a modular it's actually pretty good. Fits well maybe a half size up on what it says but good all the same and was comfortable straight out of the box . Hopefully I should get years off service out of this helmet , Thanks again SBS for your great advice and excellent service
A Great Helmet
This is comfy and lightweight helmet, I fitted an intercom system very easily it has pockets for the speakers and plenty of room to hide wires and fit the mic. I live is Spain and so far its handling the heat.. I have reservations about the venting in the hight of summer but so far so good, the sun visor could do with being darker for me here but all in all im really happy with the helmet and would recommend one
I owned a Simpson Bandit in the eighties and although it looked cool they were not a great bike helmet. The Simpson Darksome has the looks and is designed as a bike helmet, with the added flexibility of the flip front. It seams well made is reasonably quiet and is impressively light. Very pleased and the price was excellent.
Good and not quite so good
Good build quality, Good ventilation, Good vision, Good looks. I'm a 57 this is a 57/58 standard fit. I found it wasn't a snug fit. It fits ok, doesn't twist on the head, isn't loose but doesn't fit snugly as a 57, might be better if you are 58.. As a result slightly noisy with wind noise. I first used it on a long weekend trip away. Ideally I wouldn't use it for long trips touring again but am more than happy to use it on day to day and a long day visiting friends up north. But as I say if you are the larger sized head then probably no problems ..
Best looking Mod Helmet
This helmet is lightweight for a modular. Functionality of the visor, chin bar and sun visor are all great. Would like the sun visor to come lower but may not have suited all nose shapes. I saw a lot of sizing chat on this helmet - I wear a medium Bell and a medium here is fine. Not a super quiet helmet but very comfortable lining for hot and cold weather. Vents are easy to reach and chin bar can be opened with one hand. However you need to close the visor first. Was surprised to find a pinlock was included! Was very handy in recent rains and works amazingly well in all but the worst downpours, at which point it's probably not worth riding anyway. Overall first impressions are great.
