ABUS Granit Quick Mini
Customer Product Reviews
Seems fine, well made and it appears solid. It is very easy to fit and easy to carry around in my bike jacket pocket. I use it for out and about along with a chain around the frame and back tyre. I use it as just one of my securing devices. It has a useful pouch to pack away when not using. If thieves want your bike they will have your bike, it is just how much time they are prepared to spend picking and sawing away at all my devices. This lock will be a good place to start in securing your bike. Use as part of your bikes security, not the only part.
Small but tough
Compact dimensions mean this lock is easy to carry if your bike has any storage space whatsoever and it's got the usual Abus support (the ability to have keys cut from the factory, a very favourable insurance rating). Fast to fit and remove and the neon yellow keyring is a convenient reminder without unsightly coiled plastic cables.
....Its a great lock and well made, that you can tell. It looks really good on the bike. Going from a Monster disc lock, when I got this though the metal lock seemed a little weedy. My old one was 16 mm and this is something like 13mm. The difference is very noticeable. I actually feel less confident leaving my bike than I did with the old Oxford Monster disc lock. It seems more at home securing a bicycle not a 10k motorbike, of course you need to use this with something else. It says basically unpickable but ALL locks are pickable. Also says Thatcham level 15 approved, this is very misleading, its actually Abus's own internal rating from what I gather and its Thatcham recommended. I don't read anything into anything being Thatcham recommended (if you want a top end lock / chain then you need to steer clear of generic brands ). That said its handy to store, the light on the keyring is a good idea but I find it a fiddle to use. I only use it when I go into town and leaving it for short time. Overnight on a street you're going to need more than this lock can provide. It feels like a kid with a cheap hacksaw can get through this in minutes as opposed to my old disclock which seemed way more secure! oh well.
The lock is very good quality and has lots of nice touches that I wasn't aware of before buying the product. Comes complete with key tidy for combining with your bike key and as a visual reminder in case you forget to remove the lock before trying to move the bike. It also came with a second key with built in LED torch which I thought was a nice touch. The other item it came with which I found handy was the storage pouch which fits nicely under the seat when the lock is not on and stops it rattling about when out on the bike. All in all a very good product indeed and the fact its Thatcham approved makes it very good indeed!
