TCX X-Five Plus Gore-Tex Boots - Black
Customer Product Reviews
Best boots yet, esp at this price
CE rated boots with full grain leather construction. They come mid way up the calf, and feel like they will offer good protection. I ordered size 43 (8.5 UK is closest fit) as this is my usual boot size. With TCX, I had to return for size 42 which fits perfectly. For context my foot is 26.5cm heel to toe, and the circumference of my foot at widest part (behind my toes) is 12.5cm. Zips were quite hard to pull up on 1st pair, but not on 2nd. If you like these boots, but find the zips hard to pull....I would recommend just getting another pair as it seems to be luck of the draw. Highly recommended though.
Great value Gore Tex Boots
Only owned these a few weeks but performed brilliantly on a tour of wales last weekend. Rode through 2 hours of torrential rain and my feet stayed warm and dry. Comfortable to wear and walk in, I'm size 11 and the 46 was a perfect fit for my wide feet Great value boots, highly recommended
So far So Good
Well so far so good bought these as I recently changed from sports bike to Tourer and needed a boot change. They are very comfortable all be it a bit snug but Im sure that will ease off a little. I did 350 miles and no pain at all anywhere. They are also comfy off the bike too to walk about in. I am yet to test in the rain however did walk through a small river and they did not leak. Product does seem very well made. As always Sports bike shop delivery was quick and painless
Wot no 10's? Think again...
I'm a size 10 in shoe and boots and bugger me TCX are either sized at 44 (9 and a half UK) or 45 (10 and a half UK). I have had TCX ankle boots in 45 in the past but they were too big so being stubborn I bought these X-Fives in 44 and will make them fit! Yes they were tight, yes I felt foolish, yes I struggled walking in them, but, the removeable inner sole is quite thick at the heel and 5mm thick at the toe area. I swapped them over for thin leather insoles and they fit nicely! The down side is that I can feel engine vibes through the foot peg. Ah well, hey ho. I have treated the leather with leather cream and they have become even more supple and comfortable and have become my first choice for riding in all weather. Warning! Your size 10 feet might not fit.... I like the flat outer sole that doesn't snag when moving your feet on the foot pegs. So are they waterproof? Hell yeah! I wore these on a trip to Scotland in August 2020, went up the M6 in storm Ella and returned on the M6 in storm Francis (I was the nutter on a Guzzi zooming along in the fast lane). My feet? Dry as a bone. It's weird, you feel the rain thinking your feet are wet but they're not. I have a pair of Revitt Gore tex gloves that gave up after 4 hours of constant rain but these TCX boots sailed right through, highly recommended.
Great boots, they are stiff and especially the zips are stiff (use candlewax). Now I have broken them in a bit they are becoming very comfortable. The leather seems a good quality. Not really worn in the wet yet but at present really pleased with this top quality boot.
To early to give a constructive review. I am only now breaking them in, only worn them in dry weather they seem ok so far. Bought purely because my last pair were short boots and my Jean's use to ride up over the top. Now they don't ride over the top, from that point of view their a success.
TCX again for me
Goretex for £150! This is an upgrade for me, but my previous TCX boots were great for quality, features, comfort and durability. Everything about these new boots seems spot on for me. Decent width to feel supported when riding but comfortable off the bike. To me they compare in terms of materials and design with £200/£300 mid-length touring boots. In fact they're probably better! Definitely try a pair at your usual size - no need to go up a size. Fantastic service as usual from SportsBikeShop.
After initial stiffness, the boots came alive and are very comfortable, sturdy, waterproof, but don't go paddling in them! Well made, but the zip is stiff passing the ankles. Careful with that and go easy. If you break the zip pull, you're snookered. I like them a lot.. remains to be seen though how many years they last. Should be a while though
They are waterproof
Great service from SportBikeShop, they arrived in about 24hrs. I ordered these boots 1/2 a size bigger and they fit well with a bit of room for thick socks, actual size would have been a good fit also. Only had them a couple of months or so but have been caught in several biblical rain storms and had to ride through 2ft of water - the boots are waterproof! (Shame about the rest of my gear but these were very heavy storms). One thing to note in cold weather and long rides you may need a warm pair of socks. (My commute is only 15mls so no issue but I have noticed they are not as warm/insulated as my previous boots (RST Adventure boots). That said they are good winter boots and I suspect will be great in warmer weather, and as not heavily insulated they have a slimmer look to them. They are comfortable and once broken in even more so. Great value for money and a recommended buy.
