Shark Openline Prime - Gloss White
Customer Product Reviews
Poor first impression
When I opened the box, I nearly sent it straight back. The Shark stickers front and back were over a centimetre off centre - like the helmet was made in some random factory without quality control then the badges were stuck on as an afterthought. It did get better and the helmet works well. I agree with other reviewers - Sharks large size is slightly tighter that an AGV medium so be careful on sizing.
Worst helmet I've ever worn
Read all the write ups regarding this helmet and thought that it looked a good buy, tried it on and seemed comfortable and a good fit. How wrong I was. First ride out (about 150 miles) and the issues start. Incredibly noisy (even with ear plugs in). Very uncomfortable and when it rains water gets in and sprays your face for you!. Catch is so hard to use, every time you need to lift the front it will try and pull the helmet off your face first! - Will never buy another Shark helmet again.
I seem to be at odds with other reviews on this helmet. I bought it mail order and initially felt happy enough with it as it fit well and the price was good. Unfortunately the first ride revealed two issues for me. The first was noise, even taking into account that it's a flip-up, it was way too noisy for me. The second was that the visor doesn't 'snap' shut. This meant a gap which directed a cold blast (winter ride) to my face. Luckily for me, Sportsbikeshop allowed an exchange and I went back to Arai. The Openline did fit OK and is pretty cheap but I wouldn't recommend it.
Great quality helmet for the price
Very please with the look of the helmet, it came with anit-fog visor, all vents work well. I usually take a large but I found this size a little tight on my ears.( i have only worn it for 500 miles so it might loosen up a little) Delivered in 2 days with standard delivery, fantastic service!
1st flip front helmet I have had, early days yet but I do like it, easy flip up catch, makes sliding glasses on ears so much easier. Good fit otherwise. Ordered a separate Pinlock with it but had to return as one was supplied with helmet. Overall well pleased, great delivery btw....
Good quality helmet
I have recently purchased two Shark helmets for myself and being very pleased with the quality and comfort of these I bought this one for the wife who is used to a Schuberth. Her immediate concern was the risk of draught under the chin so we fitted the Shark chin cover. She is very pleased with the helmet and although there is a small amount of air ingress under the chin it is not causing discomfort. Overall assessment is good quality and very good value. Sportsbikeshop were extremely helpful in sourcing the chin cover which were in short supply, they continue to provide unrivalled customer service.
Not all there
The helmet does not come with a chin curtain. The air continually flows into the helmet to my face (yes with the vents closed), and worse on my eyes, so much so that causes watering. I have ordered the chin curtain separately, but still not arrived over a week already. However the helmet fits well, and all mechanisms feel solid. Another fault however is the visor has opened twice at about 70mph, I do ride a naked bike but have not experienced this before. Otherwise feels solid, and I can say I am pleased (in anticipation of the chin curtain working....some day).
Excellent value crash helmet
Excellent value crash helmet, locks in the open position so legal to ride with it up. Typical of all flip ups there is a lot of wind noise and the feeling of space around your mouth and chin. Mind you, I am comparing it to the Schuberth that I have, so not really a fair comparison. Using it for instructor training and it's perfectly fine, just wouldn't use it for touring long distance.
Good for the price
Very good helmet, good fit. I also got the chin curtain because the wind in my last helmet probably penetrated the deepest parts of my brain. I highly recommend getting it! In fact I believe it should come with the helmet. It makes a huge difference. This helmet is comfortable, pretty quiet and I love it. Unfortunately upon opening the plastic strap was slightly damaged but Sportsbikeshop quickly assisted the problem:)
Excellent and versatile - tad noisy
I'm a new rider so I don't have a lot of experience in helmets to judge this one by. Its certainly a massive improvement on the LS2 I started out with. You get a lot of lid for your money. The flip-lid is awesome, I have installed a camera on one side and a Bluetooth receiver on the other successfully. I had to put the Bluetooth receiver towards the back of the helmet to avoid the sun-visor switch, but this is no biggy. The Pinlock insert is excellent. The lid is quite noisy, even at low speeds, you will definitely need to wear earplugs. I bought the Shark chin curtain and it has made a big difference, especially at low to mid speeds. I also experienced an annoying whistle at around 50-60mph but that appears to have stopped since I installed the camera mount on the side???
