This one-piece suit wraps around your normal clothes, making it easy switch from civilian to biker, and back again
Rev’it Paramount As a year round commuter, and being bored of the donning then stripping off neck gaiter, jacket, and trousers (Oxford gear from SBS, great kit). Plus the amount of crap to pack ‘just in case’ on tour. I went for this goretex onesie. Simple one piece with level 2 armour and regular civvies beneath. It is a proper piece of kit, oozes quality throughout. It is going to last. Easy enough to get on, whether over a simple base layer in the heat, or jeans and sweatshirt in colder weather. I am 183cm and 110kg, EU size 56/58. Or 6ft and 46 inch chest 40 inch waist in old money. XXL fits me fine. There are great ‘adjusters’ wait, arms and legs to dial in the right fit. This isn’t a fashion statement. You do feel a little like a telly tubby at first. But it is a tool to keep you warm and dry with civvies underneath. And ‘rides’ very well. First outing into UK Monsoon, 4 hours motorway speeds, dry as a bone. Neck guard is excellent, plus it is zip off when not needed. Upon hitting warmer climes in southern Europe the vents give good airflow and it is no ‘worse’ to wear than a regular textile jacket in 25c temps. All the vents have a clever magnetic clip that means they are truly one handed operation. The advantage of course is no zipping layers in and out dependent on weather. You are always waterproof. And it leaves so much more space for regular clothing as needed. Lots of well thought out things, the vents clever. The hanging loop at the neck of the suit allows easy hanging up. The interior pocket is properly waterproof. As is the single outer. Not a great deal of pockets, but you are wearing gear with pockets inderneath, right. The left hand wrist pocket is handy for a card and payage tickets if in Europe. Otherwise, I guess just a payment card. Or spare keys. The leg pocket is large enough for phone and wallet. Probably a folded map or Ferry tickets if you go old school. I haven’t done
Worn this a few times now and it works equally well on a hot dry day as it does in a downpour. Very easy to get on and off and super adjustable. Trying on before you buy is a must as it took me a few goes to find the right combination of overall size and leg length. Usual fabulous service from the MK store staff.
TL;DR - Had this a couple of weeks and had some long wet rides. It's totally bulletproof, 100% watertight in downpour, feels quality. Downsides: No thermal lining and gets cold real quick.
I've been umming and ahhing about a set of Rukka Nivala kit for some time but have been holding out for them to make a one-piece.
Well, Rev'it got there first and within 24 hours of seeing this go up, I took the plunge after a phone chat with the Boston store who had one in stock.
Overall, the quality of the fabric is on par with the Rukka kit I've tried on. The zips are chunky and solid, both watertight and covered.
The zips run up the right thigh and from the neck to the left ankle. They make it ridiculously easy to get on and off without removing boots - I go from being 'all the gear all the time' to 'ready for the office' in about 10 seconds.
The armour is generous and comfortable, and easy to move & replace.
My main gripe is how cold it can get. The outer shell chills rapidly and there is no liner at all - let alone a removable quilted liner. Multiple layers are essential with some kind of chunky outer layer between your clothing and the hard shell. This means you need to size up a bit - I'm usually a 42 but got a 44 which was absolutely the right call. On reflection I wish I'd got a short as even sat on the bike the legs are really long!
Only other complaint is how the long zip folds up a bit and pokes me in the inner knee. It's quite stiff and I'm waiting to see if it breaks in a bit.
