Galfer produce many different compounds of brake pad for all types of riding styles. With more than 60 years of experience in the production of friction materials, they have learned that one compound does not always suit the need of every rider. So, no matter if you are looking for an O.E.M. replacement or a high performance race compound brake pad, they have you covered. The 1054 compound is the workhorse of the Galfer brake pad family. It offers progressive feel and feedback and is GG rated which makes it a great all round brake pad. This compound is available for front and rear calipers. You can use this compound if you commute to and from work, ride light trails or woods or just need some good brake pads. Applications range from street, ATV, dirt bike and cruisers.
When installing Galfer brake pads, be sure to clean around the pistons of the caliper according to your motorcycle service manual. This helps the pistons slide easier and gives you better release for the brake pads.
Galfer recommend cleaning the caliper pad slide pins as this will help the pads retract when the lever is released.
Most systems will not reuse the OEM brake pad shims or heat plates but this is your choice.
Always check the brake fluid level in your reservoir. New pads and rotors are thicker than the old ones and too much fluid in the system can apply the brakes when you are not applying pressure on the lever.
Brake pads should be bedded in to clean rotors. Start with slower speed stops ranging from 10-15mph and increasing in blocks of 10mph up to a maximum of 40-50mph. Repeat this step a few times and then you can resume casual riding. Bedding in brake pads correctly helps prevent glazing and helps to mate the pads to the rotor surface.
Changes to the brake system are known to affect the suspension of your vehicle. You may need to adjust the settings of your suspension after upgrading the brakes on your motorcycle.
If you are also installing brake lines with your pads and / or rotors, Galfer recommend that you do the brake lines first in case brake fluid is spilled on any of the components; brake pads can absorb brake fluid and will contaminate them.
For 50 years Galfer have supplied original equipment brake discs and pads to automotive and motorcycle industries worldwide. The very latest manufacturing technology and materials are employed to ensure consistent quality and high performance. Galfer are innovators in braking technology and are the company responsible for the original Wave disc design.
