If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
Agreed that this is a top price garment however it is well designed, with small design touches that give the jacket a true premium feel. I have stayed 100% dry in heavy rain and the storm collar played a large part in that. I used a small buff underneath the collar with the storm one on the outside. This kept the heat in and water out.
The storm cuffs on the sleeves worked fantastically, best set up I have ever used including other Goretex motorcycle jackets.
If you are a regular all year all weather rider or a professional I would recommend it.
The inner liner keeps you warm, however it is a little warm on hot days and is not easy to unbutton in the sleeves.
The zip mechanism to other Rukka trousers is robust and has some elastic material to account for back stretch when you sit down or bend down etc.
Navigator Jacket - beautifully made and obvious high quality (and the size guide good) BUT oh so flawed. Waterproofing hasn't really been tested save for riding through a persistent drizzle on the 1st day - no leaks to report and the collar and cuff arrangements are great - no more draughts. 2nd day, a 300 mile round trip in -1 to -4 temperatures, when you thought you were getting a warm jacket too then think again. The outlast liner (which is a right pita due to being a cotton like finish and therefore grabs at your base layer makes getting the jacket on/off a real struggle - there is a reason why liners are made of a slippy material Rukka) The liner finishes approx. 2 inches either side of the central zip - and boy does it show - on the bike the cold literally permeates this central section to the point where my chest was freezing - something I haven't experienced since I brought a cheap 'motorcycle' leather in the 1980's. Add to this that my upper arms were suffering too due to lack of adequate insulation (and I was wearing Rukkas top of the range base layers and a tech top) and the ride turned into shear misery. I'm now faced with purchasing a heated jacket to supplement an extremely expensive flawed piece of kit. This is so not a 3 seasons jacket off the shelf, VFM - 2/5.
Excellent waterproofing, it's comfortable and warm, as I've not had a chance to test it in summer weather I can't comment on that. The build quality is very good and it feels like a well made product that will last a lifetime if looked after. In regards to the sizing I wasn't sure as I am currently in Germany so couldn't try it on so gave the shop a call to ask for sizing advice. It turns out Rukka fits my weird 5ft8 inch with 6ft2 inch arm span and a 47 inch chest, just bought the jacket that corresponded with my chest size. If you get the chance to buy a suit I would recommend Sportsbikeshop, a very helpful service and fast delivery even to a different country.
