If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
Customers rave about these trousers, citing outstanding fit, comfort, and waterproof performance even in harsh conditions. Despite a few minor issues and high price, the consensus is they’re worth the investment for their durability and comfort. The stretch material and D30 armour are highlighted for enhancing flexibility and safety. Some users experienced initial leakage, resolved via warranty service. Overall, these trousers are praised for their high quality, making them a preferred choice for serious riders.
This is my second pair. The first pair were cut off me by an ambulance driver filling an RTA in June this year. Although I broke my leg the pants did a great job of saving my skin. The only issue I had with the first pair was the ribbon on each side of the hip for hanging frayed, other than that, a year and a half of every day use and they never let water in once. Made of a stretch material which is why I believe they only have a A rating (stretch materials do not perform well in the machine used for the test). The stretch material makes them comfortable if a little tight around the knees but this is more to do with the flexibility of the knee armour.
I believe these are the best you can buy and if you can afford them why not.
High quality and performance are the hall marks of Rukka and these jeans are just that. Not cheap but probably the best. The only thing I can think of to improve them would be a cargo leg pocket.
Ordered these to go with nivala jacket . Unfortunately when delivered the inner thermal lining was missing, Chris from sportbikeshop was brilliant,no fuss just posted liner which arrived couple days later. I was going to buy the kalawesi suit as it was cheaper. Then I tried on the nivala jacket and jeans ,Wow what a difference, feels totally different ,so light not as bulky,it's quite a shock actually how much more comfortable the nivala jacket is, same for trousers. The stretchy material only comes with the nivala suit, what a difference it makes. Rukka s best suit for comfort, and so well made, I feel bomb proof.
Bought these on the Black Friday deal and saved a small fortune doing so to add to the jacket I bought. Trousers fit perfectly and the liner is super warm not been tested in a proper down pour but fully expect them to excel.
I'm giving these trousers 5 stars however I haven't been out on bike.
Quality and features are top drawer and being Rukka laminate pro i fully expect performance to be great.
Had Quality Goretex liner suits up till now however when they wet out it's not a pleasant experience.
Looking forward to be dry and warm.
This was a massive decision to buy these and the jacket but after wearing them they are really comfortable the extra long armour in the knees are great but makes getting them off a bit more of a fiddle apart from that they are super lite and flexible so highly recommended but very expensive.
Worth the money, been through some heat rain no problems.
I bought these to replace my Rukka Armaxion trousers after they started leaking and were not repairable.
I loved the Armaxion trousers but the Nivala trousers are an improvement in almost every aspect.
The outer shell of the Nivala are made of a thinner/slightly stretchy material which makes them much easier to put on over tall boots. And also a little cooler and easier to move around in when off the bike.
The Goose Down liner is a revelation as well. I was unsure about the concept of a non zip in thermal liner as I imagined it to be uncomfortable and moving around/riding up. I couldn't be more wrong. The liner fits great underneath the outer shell and is more than warm enough. It makes things so much easier if you decide you want to remove the liner. Currently I have the liner in for my commute in the morning, but remove it on the commute home as it's warmed up by then. On my Armaxion trousers I'd have probably left them in as it'd be too much of a faff to unzip/unbutton the liner.
The only thing I preferred from the Armaxion is that I had a Velcro strap fastener for the waist, whereas the Nivala has popper buttons. The popper buttons work well, but experience for me is that they tend to fail over time whereas Velcro is more durable.
Apart from that, I love them. The Armaxion were also Goretex Pro and had D30 armour, so on this front - the Nivala are no different. They are of course very expensive, but no other manufacturer offers a 6 year warranty & courtesy garments (although this is currently suspended due to Covid, however SBS sent me loan jeans from their own stock which is very commendable) should yours need to be repaired. Only other negative is that I now want the Nivala Jacket now even though my Rukka Jacket is perfectly fine!
I considered buying these for some time and am very pleased that I took the plunge. I wore them all day in the pouring rain and they kept me warm and dry. Very pleased. Also as the description states they don't hold the water so even in a deluge when you get off the bike they are not dripping wet.
Although very expensive, very comfortable and also very waterproof. Rode is some very wet conditions and stayed dry. They are also quite good at keeping you cool in the hotter conditions, excellent venting and the armour once moulded is not obtrusive to the knees and hips.
After lots of research and trying various pairs and makes on, taking advantage of Sportsbikeshop returns policy, I settled on these for daily use and long distance touring. They fit amazingly well and are very comfortable. They are expensive but I thought about how much I use them and the space saving of not having to take additional waterproofs with me. Wanted to buy the best to feel confident should the worse happen.
2 weeks in and I had an off on a roundabout. Low side slide at about 20mph, where I slid for a short distance on my ar*e. These trousers offered very little/ no resistance to the slide. The backside wore straight through to my skin. I've been in similar situations with kit that cost lot less that held up better. RUKKA would not accept the trousers back for inspection or answer my questions about being fit for purpose which is very poor. In fact they didn't even respond to my emails. I know its my fault for falling off but there wasn't any support from RUKKA regarding my concerns. Sportsbikeshop did try to help but didn't get very far either.
Anyway I opted to buy a second pair and wear them with Kevlar under trousers, just in case. I had to match up with the jacket and couldn't justify buying a different brand.
Recent trip to Scotland proved that these are 100% waterproof. 4 hours on a motorway at speed in hard rain and they didn't leak.
As I said in the title, A very expensive set of waterproofs.
The stretch is excellent in these trousers, you don't know your wearing them and with gortex pro your dry too, can't fault in may 2021 storms, well done sportsbike shop your my number one go to for anything motorcycle
Great fit especially with the braces, what sold me is Sportbikeshop free returns so I knew I could send them back if they were not correct, they keep you warm but cool I haven't tested them in the rain yet as I try to avoid it...lol....and enjoy walking around and not pulling them up every 2 min like my old pair !
Waterproof and comfortable. wish I had of invested sooner. The sizing was a little off for me but thankfully they offer these jeans in varying leg lengths.
Dont be put off by worrying that the clothing may not fit. Sportsbikeshop's returns policy is excellent and combined with DPD's great service, after returning three items I have the sizes I need - all in the course of a week!
Very happy with these. Water just runs off. Comfortable. And no damp patches were we usually get them
Already have the jacket which is fantastic! So I thought I would buy the Trousers.
They are very expensive however the quality is spot on.
I'm 6ft 4 so opted for the long length, surprisingly there a little to long, which is a nice change for me ....
The fit is also very good, not at all baggy.
I haven't used them yet due to the current lockdown but confident they will be as good quality as is the jacket.
Top service from sbs as expected.
Highly recommend both the jacket, trousers and service from SportsBikeShop
Can't believe how good these are. I know they're pricey but having driven through a hailstorm an hour after buying them, I was laughing inside my helmet at how good they were. Extremely comfortable. I dont know why I didnt buy them sooner.
The Rukka jeans work. They are comfortable, waterproof and warm. They are expensive however you can see and feel why and where the money is spent. I ride the bike and use these textiles daily. Simply they work extremely well

The Nivala and Nivala 2 are similar but with the newer product you are getting a new and improved down liner, extra ventilation and updated logos.
