Taking new boots straight on a long-distance tour is always a risk, but the Furygan Chattan D3O boots proved a solid bet right from the off. Worn over 1500 miles on a European summer tour, they offered comfort, practicality and reliable waterproofing, suggesting they make a dependable choice for touring riders. Here’s how I found them during my five-nation tour…
Fit & comfort
Once I’d addressed a sizing issue, the Furygan Chattan D3O boots fit me very well. I usually wear a size 43, which is sometimes slightly roomy — but in this case, the boots were noticeably looser than I’d expected. Ideally, I would have gone down a size, but a size 42 wasn’t available in time for my trip. I solved the problem by swapping the thin foam insoles for a thicker pair, which made the boots snug and supportive without feeling cramped.
Since this adjustment, fit has been excellent. The boots offer plenty of room without any unwanted movement, and the ATOP dial fastener is a standout feature. It allows for quick, precise adjustment each time I wear the boots. Turning the dial clockwise tightens a cable around the ankle and rotating it anti-clockwise fully releases tension on the cable, making them incredibly easy to get on and off. Around the ankles and shins, the boots secure well, helping them feel locked in place without any pinching or pressure points.
On the bike, they are superbly comfortable — even on long riding days. They fit neatly under textile trousers and never feel too bulky or restrictive.

Off the bike, they are just as easy to wear. I walked around a German town for half an hour without any issues, and the Michelin-branded sole provided reassuring grip when parking on loose-surfaced laybys. The overall roominess inside the boots contributes to their lasting comfort.
Weather protection
The boots come with an unbranded waterproof membrane and from my experience it does the job well. I encountered several downpours while riding in Europe and came through each one with dry feet. I didn’t have a chance to test them in cold conditions, but I’d be confident wearing them in chillier weather, based on how well-sealed they felt.
As temperatures approached 30°C, my feet did become a bit warm — but this was never a big issue. I accepted a bit of extra heat in exchange for staying dry during summer storms, which felt like a worthwhile trade-off on this trip.
Grip & stability
The sole is made by Michelin, with a tread pattern from their car tyres, and it did an excellent job of keeping me secure both on and off the bike. On the Suzuki V-Strom 800RE’s footpegs, which have rubber touring-style inserts, I always felt well planted. The tread also gave me solid footing on pavements and gravelly roadside laybys — ideal for touring when stopping in less-than-ideal spots for a stretch or photo break.
Protection
The Furygan Chattan D3O boots score a 2-1-1-1 rating in CE, with added WR (water-resistance) and IPA (impact protection for ankle) markings. It’s a little surprising the boots only achieve basic passes for impact abrasion, cut resistance, and transverse rigidity, given how robust they feel. While the technical rating doesn't inspire huge confidence, in use the boots felt solid and protective.
Durability
After 1500 miles, the boots are holding up well. I tested the grey version, which was always likely to show signs of use more easily than the black option. There are light smear marks on the gearchange panel and some general grime on the foot sections, but this is well within expectations for adventure-touring use. If the idea of this causes you concern, an all-black version is probably a better bet for you. The sole is showing no signs of wear, which suggests good durability and longevity in that regard.
Conclusion
The Furygan Chattan D3O boots turned out to be an excellent companion for my European tour. They were comfortable, practical, and durable from day one, and I’ll happily keep using them for many more miles. While the CE protection rating is basic, in real-world use the boots felt tough and trustworthy.
These are best suited to touring and adventure riding, especially when paired with textile trousers. Riders who typically wear denim jeans while riding might find these boots too bulky. But if you’re after a waterproof, comfortable boot with easy on/off ability and a rugged style, these are well worth considering — just check your sizing carefully before you buy.
