The Klim Krios Pro helmet is billed as a premium adventure option, designed to work as well off-road as it does on the tarmac.

Built from super-lightweight carbon fibre, it promises long-distance comfort, excellent stability, and clever features to make life easier when the miles rack up.

After 12,000 miles across every season, I can honestly say this helmet delivers. It feels premium, looks good, and has the practicality and comfort I want for year-round riding.

Fit & comfort

This helmet fits like a dream. I thought nothing would ever feel as good as my old Arai helmets, but the Krios Pro is perfect for me. It holds my head firmly with even pressure all round, making it feel like it’s custom-made for me.

Sizing matched what I wear in most other helmets – a small – and I can wear it all day without fatigue, aches or hot spots. The lining is soft against my skin and doesn’t make me sweat, even on the one warm day we get per year here in the UK! The light weight is a huge plus, too – it often feels like I’m not wearing a helmet at all, especially with the wide visor aperture giving such an open feel.

Noise & aerodynamics

Noise levels with this helmet have depended a lot on the bike and screen set-up. The Krios Pro was a dream on my first Honda Africa Twin, which had a taller screen. It was quiet and stable, with no excess lift. When I switched to another Africa Twin with a shorter screen, it was a different story: the ride home was literally a blast, with my head rattling like I was on a white-knuckle ride at Blackpool. A clip-on wind deflector fixed that.

Now, with my third and latest Africa Twin’s adjustable screen I’ve had no issues at all. Whether I'm doing motorway speeds (70mph, of course) or crawling through traffic, the helmet feels stable and secure.

I’ve ridden with the peak on and off and honestly noticed very little difference. Shoulder checks feel a bit smoother without the peak, but there’s no major buffeting either way.

Vision & visor system

One of the biggest selling points for the Krios Pro was how easy it is to remove or swap the visor and peak. No tools, no faff – just quick-release clips and a positioning screw I can undo with my fingers.

The visor lifts and closes smoothly, sealing properly when I want it shut, but it can also be left slightly ajar for extra airflow. There’s no halfway detent, but I’ve not found that to be a problem.

The photochromic visor is the real star. It reacts quickly to changing light, so I’ve never been left blinded when suddenly turning straight into the sun, or struggling in shade.

If I close the visor on a bright day after riding with it up, sometimes I briefly see darker patches where the peak shadowed it, but this evens out within moments. I find it simple, effective, and far better than juggling tinted visors.

A Pinlock 120 anti-fog insert is included, and it’s worked flawlessly for me – no fogging, even in cold or wet conditions.

The visor aperture is wide, giving me excellent peripheral vision both sideways and up and down. It adds to the feeling of freedom and reduces the amount of head movement I need for life-saver checks.

Ventilation

Ventilation is strong. There’s a chin vent and a forehead vent that can be opened and closed, plus multiple exhaust ports at the sides and back that keep air moving through.

The only niggle is that the forehead vent can be fiddly to operate while riding, but once it’s set, the system works really well. Air circulates freely, keeping me cool in summer and comfortable in winter. It’s enough to stop my make-up melting or me becoming a sweaty mess at the end of a ride, which says it all for me.

Fastening & safety

The Krios Pro uses a Fidlock magnetic strap fastener instead of the usual double D-ring. At first, switching to something new felt strange, but I quickly came to love it.

The amount of times I’ve put my gloves on before my helmet is unreal – and with Fidlock, it no longer matters. I can fasten it securely even with gloves on. I've tried to knock it, shake it, bop it to see if it will open but it has always stayed closed until I have chosen to open it.

Safety-wise, the helmet meets the latest ECE 22.06 standard and includes Koroyd energy-absorbing material.

Koroyd's honeycomb-style structure promises improved impact protection while also boosting ventilation. Like anything new, it made me curious at first, so I did my research, and I came away impressed.

After 12,000 miles of use, I feel fully confident in its ability to protect me if the worst happens.

Intercom compatibility

I’ve had both the Cardo Packtalk Bold and now the Cardo Packtalk Edge fitted to this helmet, and both have been a match made in heaven. They fit perfectly to the shell, install easily, and work flawlessly day-to-day.

Sound quality is excellent – I can clearly hear music, phone calls and GPS directions, even with earplugs in. For me, this has been the best intercom/helmet combination I’ve used.

Final thoughts

My Krios Pro is now five years old and ready to be retired, but it still looks as good as it did on the day I bought it. That’s the curse of premium helmets – they hold up so well it’s hard to justify replacing them. But I will replace it, and most likely with another Krios Pro.

The only real downside for me is that I’d like to see more colour options. Otherwise, I’ve found it stylish, comfortable, stable and easy to live with. The visor system is excellent, the ventilation works, and the Fidlock fastening has been a revelation.

I’ve recommended this helmet to plenty of other riders and many have bought one on the strength of my experience. All have reported the same positive results. For me, this is the crème de la crème of helmets. It’s not cheap, but you can’t put a price on your head. Would I buy another? Absolutely.
