Rukka describe their R-Viss Gore-Tex jacket as an adventure jacket, however in my world it's more at home on the road than it would be off it. I feel it’s a short, tailored textile jacket designed for touring, commuting and everyday riding rather than serious off-road work.

I used it through a wet and cold start to 2026, covering around 1000 miles on a mix of bikes including a BMW R1250RT, R1300GS and Voge 900DSX. From short trips to long delivery runs as a blood biker, it quickly proved itself as a dependable, road-focused all-rounder.

Fit & comfort

The fit is tailored yet adjustable. There are adjusters at the waist, hem, cuffs and arms, which makes it easy to fine-tune depending on what layers you’re wearing underneath.

I wore a Euro size 48 (38-inch chest), which aligns with what I’d normally expect. If I wanted to regularly wear thicker layers, I’d size up, though overall sizing feels consistent.

Comfort is excellent. Stretch panels allow easy movement both on and off the bike, and I don't suffer with any pressure points or irritations. I completed rides approaching 200 miles without discomfort, which says a lot for a jacket with this level of structure and protection.

Cold & wet weather performance

This jacket has a laminated Gore-Tex membrane and that’s where it really earns its keep.

In prolonged heavy rain - including multiple rides covering between 100 and 200 miles and at least one named storm - the R-Viss kept me completely dry throughout.

The laminated construction prevents the outer from soaking up water, so it never becomes heavy or cold. Once indoors, it dries quickly and is ready to go again.

Performance in the cold is more dependent on your layering. There’s no thermal liner included, so at temperatures of 2-3°C I needed to add layers, including a heated jacket. That said, the jacket does an excellent job of blocking wind, which makes a big difference to overall warmth.

Hot weather performance

I didn’t test the jacket in warm conditions, however it’s well equipped. There are ventilation openings on the chest, sleeves, sides and back, which should provide decent airflow in milder climates.

That said, a laminated Gore-Tex jacket like this is unable to match the airflow of dedicated summer gear. It feels best suited to typical Northern European riding conditions rather than extreme heat.

Protection

The jacket carries an AA CE rating and comes equipped with D3O Level 2 armour at the shoulders and elbows.

As expected, the D3O armour is comfortable, flexible and unobtrusive. It sits well and provides good coverage without restricting movement.

There’s no back or chest protection included as standard, but both can be added. I tested the jacket with optional back and chest armour fitted and preferred the one-piece chest protector for ease and coverage. With these added, protection levels feel strong and confidence-inspiring.

Pockets & practicality

There are two external pockets, one internal pocket and a rear storage pocket designed to accommodate a hydration bladder.

Rukka describe the pockets as 'water-resistant', though in practice they proved fully waterproof - all passed my 200-mile tissue test, keeping a tissue in each pocket dry in heavy rain without any issue.

The front pockets are functional but can feel bulky when loaded, particularly with items like a wallet, due to the jacket’s tailored fit.

There are plenty of practical touches: a stowable storm collar, internal cuffs that work well with gloves, hydration tube loops, a connection zip for trousers and even a crotch strap for added stability.

One minor gripe is the Velcro at the collar, which didn’t fasten as securely as I felt it should and occasionally came undone, particularly when adding layers that sit high on my neck.

Durability

After 1000 miles in tough winter conditions, the jacket still looks as good as new. There are no signs of wear, no failures and nothing requiring repair.

Add in Rukka’s five-year warranty - along with the Gore-Tex guarantee - and there’s every reason to expect this to be a long-term investment.

Final thoughts

This is a premium-priced jacket, and if you factor in optional armour and layering, it becomes a serious investment.

What you get in return is outstanding waterproof performance, excellent build quality and the reassurance of Gore-Tex and Rukka’s warranty backing it up. It’s a jacket that thrives in the kind of wet, cold conditions we regularly face in the UK.

It’s not the most versatile in extreme heat, and you’ll need to manage your own insulation in winter, but if your riding is predominantly in cooler, wetter climates, this is a jacket you can rely on.

Expensive? Yes. Capable? Undeniably.
