If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
I wanted a summer jacket for my trip to the Rockies to better cope with the temperatures than my Alpinestar Andes V3 jacket which has the drystar liner and would be too sweaty. I'm 5.11 with 44" chest and broad shoulders and the XL was an excellent fit from day 1. The jacket is fairly heavy as all wax cotton jackets are but it wasn't a problem, i found it comfortable, i think it looks stylish and it held up to some rain showers. Pockets are just right and the waist adjustment was just right for me to pull it in a bit having a 34" waist. The standard armour is quite rigid and i felt it pressing on my elbows so I changed it for more flexible type but still in same CAT. On the whole i'm very happy with the jacket. My only negative gripes are the lack of additional ventilation, the two front zips open to a mesh but have no way to pin them open so they do very little, and there is no openings on the rear to allow air to pass through the jacket, this is probably its biggest failing IMO. The zips on the sleeve would be better if they too had mesh behind them so you can open them for additional ventilation. Bear in mind that I was riding in 30 - 38 degree temperatures but I still think additional ventilation would be useful in summer UK/ EU temps. if it had them it would be 5 Stars.
My final point is that the sales description and pics state reflective details, yet there are none at all.
On the whole I am pleased with my purchase and it will be my go to summer jacket, maybe i'll add some rear vents.
