Nolan have joined the flipover party with their N120-1, and they're a very welcome arrival
Obviously fit and comfort is a personal thing, but for me second time out I was riding for over 6 hours and found it extremely comfortable. I have always worn medium helmets and this was a perfect fit.
Helmet weight is reasonable for this type of helmet and was no problem for me on the 6 hour ride.
Quality is good with easy to use controls and a plush lining. For me the real benefit is the ability to easily switch between open or full face - at slow speeds a much prefer to be open face. Changing mode could be done on the move and unlike my Schuberth C4, the visor could be used in open face mode, with the chin bar retracted at the back of the helmet not causing any drag.
Sun visor is easy to operate and quickly retracts with the press of a button - really useful if you ride into a very shady area.
Helmet noise seemed about the same as the Schuberth - I always wear ear plugs so was fine for me.
I fitted the cheapest Nolan intercom system which was a bit fiddly, but Nolan do a pretty good video on the process. For the price the unit works really well for music and satnav (haven't tried the intercom functionality) and the controls on the side of the helmet are not bulky.
Only negative I have (hence only 4 stars) is that in full face mode, the vents do not seem to let in much air. It was getting very stuffy on the motorway and I needed to open the visor to first position to get in more air. Hoping that this is not going to result in steaming up in winter. Can't comment on efficiency of the pinlock, which comes pre-fitted, as the weather has been really warm since I go the helmet.
All in all really happy with the combined purchase of helmet and intercom, which was at an excellent price (sub £300).
Absolutely love it, great fit and it’s like a Swiss Army knife.
I have several X lite and Nolan Helmets and find them as good as the Shoei's I have had in the past. I have the Large and it is very, very comfortable to the point that I think I could have squeezed into M all my other lids are Large
My first flip back helmet. I've bought Shoei and AGV in the past but I love this helmet. Appears to be well made. The componentry (clear visor, sun shield and chin bar) operate with a feel of quality. Chin bar has an assuring clunk when drawn down. I like the fully retracting chin bar making it aerodynamic rather than a flip up helmet's position potentially creating a wind sail. Flip lids can be heavier but it haven't noticed any difference in weight from my previous lids. It's versatile too. One can have the chin bar retracted, clear visor up or down, sun screen the same. Wide peripheral vision and good ventilation in full face mode. I chose grey due to the other interested colours (orange and green) are matt and felt they'll be more easily marked. Oh, it's also quieter than my previous lids. Negatives....a little wind noise in full face mode and there's no D ring to lock it onto my bike. Small minors really. £300, I'm rather chuffed with it.
Well I stepped away from Nolan for a year , silly move on my part . Why because I saw a helmet with coms fitted and thought lets give it a try , bad move it was heavy noisy and the restricted vision drove me bonkers . So back to a Nolan woth a reworked flip front ( magic ) . So in M H O new Nolan lid is A1 totally perfect
Super comfy but difficult to lift up chin bar because of 2 clips you have to press together, you can’t do this with gloves on.
Good fit, well made and designed. I would recommend this helmet.
Full flip over, mega comfortable great vision, great price
