The idea seed for the hydration pack was planted in 1989 during the Hotter N Hell 100 bicycle race. In a moment of thirst-driven inspiration, Michael Eidson, an emergency medical tech and future founder of CamelBak, filled an IV bag with water, slipped it into a sock, and stuffed the crude contraption down the back of his bike jersey. At that moment with a hose over his shoulder, its end clamped by a clothespin hands-free hydration, and CamelBak, was born.
