If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
The Alpinestars RX-3 WP Textile Jacket is very well made and good knowing its made of strong Cordura in the event of an unfortunate off on the bike.
Jacket is made in the typical Alpinestars fashion and is sized small in a Euro type fit but I'm a small/medium in most stuff and found the small to be perfect for my thin size and frame, stocky or wide shouldered people might need a size up though.
Features are great on the jacket and the external TPU sliders on the shoulders gives you some added protection and sliding ability if the worst happened on top of the CE Level 1 shoulder and elbow protectors.
Good sized and positioned zipped pockets on the outside and usual Velcro typed ones on the inside that are handy for phones or documents etc.
Connection zip is perfect for the matching RX-3 WP Trousers and looks compatible with most other Alpinestars trousers given the length of it.
Tested in all weather conditions since I bought it 2 years ago and ranging from -3 to 26 degrees in the UK and the jacket does the job fantastically with its perfectly positioned direct vents on the arms under your armpits (wish more jackets would do this), the thermal removable vest is brilliant and can be popped in and out quickly depending on the temperature as with the lined waterproofing, rode in torrential rain for 3hrs and yes I was wet but I was dry underneath and I only had a merino wool top on so was very impressed given its price and features. I upgraded the armour to CE Level 2 as with a back protector and are just as comfortable and flexible but personally I think these items should be included in all clothing designed for motorcycling as a minimum that's why you are buying it to protect you after all but just a small niggle.
All in a fantastic jacket and would recommend both the Jacket & Trousers if you only had to have one suit that does everything for UK weather. Not too expensive but lacking in features.
Great buy and would buy another if I needed to and highly recommend.
Great jacket, keeps me warm but not excessively warm.
For sizing I was undecided if I should go large or XL. I tried both. Large fitted perfect but the arms just seem slightly short. XL had perfect arm length but just too big a fit. XL would work if I had layers underneath but I don't feel I need them as it's warm enough. Opted for Large in the end. Slim build/6 foot.
By far my best gear, warm, protective and slick. I was after something that didn't make me look like a marshmallow on a stick and this is it.
