Laminated kit for women isn't common - could Klim's Altitude survive an eight-day Scotland tour?
I was undecided about buying this jacket. Tried on and loved it but it's an A rated and I wanted AA. Bought in the end as I really like the fit and the colour. Just hope not to put it to the test. For the price I wanted at least an AA rating but I was surprised how the majority of touring goretex jackets are mainly only A even at twice the price of this one. Not been able to test the waterproofing yet as the sun comes out every time I wear it!! It's not too stiff like many waterproof textiles which makes it really comfy. Very flattering cut too. No thermal liner but I added a packable down jacket from M&S. would defo recommend and thanks to SBS Preston for letting me try on a truckload of jackets fire deciding :)
The best bike jacket ever. Must have been designed by a woman biker. Totally flexible, feels light weight but still has all the armour. The quality and attention to the finishing detail is tremendous. I now look forward to putting my biking gear on.
I wore this jacket on a 10 day tour to Scotland and got rained on for 10 whole days. I managed to stay dry apart from one instance where I did not close the neck flap properly and rain poured in. User mistake. I changed my underlayers, closed the flap, continued riding in the downpour and stayed dry. It is a nice flattering shape with a slight curve at the waist too. Rain water did not soak into the fabric so the jacket never became heavy with water and dried out very quickly. I was camping and the jacket was left in the tent while it was still pouring outside the tent. The jacket was light and somewhat moist the next day but not heavy with water. Extremely pleased with Klim's laminated textile. I am now their ambassador and tell all my friends about how wonderful Klim is.
After having been though several other well known brands of textile clothing, I was getting fed up of getting wet and having to wear ill fitting male alternatives; especially in the adventure category.
My ride to to work the other week was the last straw. So reviewing several websites on Klim clothing (including here), I decided to bite the bullet and purchase some.
And whilst Klim clothing is expensive, you really do get what you pay for. The fit is brilliant and you can really feel the quality.
Most reviews said that the jacket does run small, being a size 14 normally I found the jacket fitted me perfectly and it's not bulky or heavy.
With a good amount of adjustment in the waist and sleeves I was able to get a perfect fit.
It's a pity there are not more pockets, but the outside ones are pretty ample, and there are several more inside (sadly can't fit an iPhone 6s Plus in there as its just a bit small). But can not store my hankies all save and dry in it's place :)
My only gripe with the jacket is the cuffs could do with being a bit larger on the opening. And the same applies with the neck, both don't allow much room to expand (neck tubes etc).
As with all Klim clothing, the idea is you buy separate base / mid layers. This is were for me the size 14 could do with being a smidgen bit bigger. Once you layer up it does get snug in there.
I've yet to put the waterproofness to the test, but I couldn't find a negative review anywhere regarding Klim's gear in this respect. So will trust other reviews.
The Gore-Tex does really help block out the wind as well.
Along with Sportsbikeshop's amazing customer service. |'m over the moon with the jacket. Just wish I done it sooner.
