Good functionality and value
07 February 2024 by Mark J
I bought these trousers to replace my 20+year old Hein Gericke trousers. They are of a similar weight and thickness but alas are not as warm. I hope they at least last as long! Plenty of room in the leg for a boot.

I have previously had 2 sets of Oxford Mondial jackets and trousers, which have been excellent and although only "A" rated, were fine when I slid down Stelvio! I have always championed Oxford but this Stormland jacket and trousers are a real disappointment.

The jacket is not too bad, the cuffs, similar to Rukka cuffs, are very good at keeping the wet out, collar is too low and the storm collar keeps folding down and letting the water in. The trousers are not good and I think I have wasted my money to be blunt. The armour in the knees is half way down my shins and try as I might I cannot get it to stay where I want it, I have tried a shorter leg length too but the problem persists. The ankle fastening is useless. When you zip the ankle closed there is a lot of spare material and the velcro closure does not tighten it up, so I have a freezing draft going up my legs, I have had to find some straps to go over the outside of the ankles to stop the draught. I ride all year round in all weathers, about 22000 miles a year, so it matters to me. In conclusion, I think I have wasted my money buying these. I would be better off with the original Mondial jacket, (not Mondial 2.0 which is not as good, cuffs, vents etc.). I will probably end up selling these on ebay and lose a few hundred pounds, then buy Mondial jacket and trousers. Very disappointed and very unhappy with Oxford for this cost and hassle.
Vary comfortable and warm

I bought the trousers with matching jacket and I am delighted with both.
Thoughtful design with barely noticeable armour.
Trousers easily fit over my Oxford MS boots without flapping about or any restriction.
Overall quality, fit and design is a gamechanger for me, very pleased with both garments.
Good gear for the money

Good standard of gear , nice option of two size zips to attach to jacket.Easy to attach using either.Found the leg length a little short when wearing ankle boots as they ride up a little , but as with the jacket warm and comfortable to wear
Warm comfortable riding trousers

Wife bought me trousers and matching jacket for Christmas and I am very pleased so far. Great fit and very comfortable. Have ridden for a couple of hours, temperature was 5 degrees and I stayed warm. I Have not tested in the rain yet but it looks and feels like it should do the job
Armour placement - almost perfect

I'll just list the bad and the good.
I'm 36w regular leg 85kg

- ridiculous amount of excess material around the ankle/calf area. It's a wide fit and will fit around most of the largest full length boots but it's too baggy. It has a zip which seals the lower calf section and then an odd velcro closure to cover the zip which does nothing but cover the zip.

- armour in the knees very basic, your usual yellow smooth ways/W soft armour, it only has 3 positions for adjustment using velcro, if you choose the highest position you can't seal the top so the tip of the armour isn't fully in the pocket. In a regular leg the armour sits too low for me.

- The trousers should have the ability to adjust armour left or right and ideally fit larger armour. There is more than enough space in the trousers. The armour doesn't sit in the right place when on the bike for me. I tried lots different armour sizes and came to the conclusion I needed a shorter leg length. Which helped with the height but the armour still moved around. There is an adjustable strap located at the top of your calf... that allows you to tighten the fit which does keep the armour better placed, even on the tightest setting I still would need another 1" to make it perfect.

- due to the armour height being too low I had to get a short trouser which introduced a new problem only when I'm not wearing full size boots. The trousers are a little too short which can let a lil draft just on the ankles, possibly a lil water

- the ykk vislon 8v zip on the short connector will fit most Weise, furygan connectors but for some reason the long connection zip is a smaller size so you'll only be able to fit Oxford jackets to the trousers using the long connection

- lightweight and not bulky

- great liner, thin, warm and has soft touch fleece like sections around the knees, waist and groin that makes it a really comfortable trouser.

- lots of room around the male body parts. I'm able to wear jeans underneath and still be comfortable.

- great adjustment around the waist, true to size fit.

- braces are great and comfortable and use them all the time.

- only done a couple hundred miles with maybe 30 minutes in extremely heavy rain. Was dry and had no leaks. In cold temperatures in the wet The temperature drops pretty quickly even with the liner especially on faster roads so a thermal base layer would help there. The outer material was pretty wet but dried over night. A good waterproof treatment will do it good.

- zips/vents seal really well, doesn't let water in and give decent amount of ventilation. Would happily wear this through all seasons in the UK.

- the waterproof seals on the seams of the garment appear to be of a high quality resembling very high end expensive technical outdoor gear.

- big block of armour around the hips.

The trousers would have 5 star excellent rating if the knee armour positioning wasn't a problem for me.
Too Baggy

I never understand why Oxford continue to think that because you have a bigger waste you also have huge legs. The waist it a perfect fit but there is excess in the legs and even more so when you tale the liner out. Its not always cold when its raining, even in the UK.
