If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
I have been using these for a couple of weeks now. I spend every third day using the bike all day in between meetings and site visits. They are great for wearing all day. The foot straps are the only thing that took a bit of getting used to. I have to make sure they’re perfectly straight when I put my boots on or they can rub a bit when riding. Had to adjust them on the first day and the third day but since then I worked it out.
I was after some armoured & abrasion resistant leggings to go under non armoured waterproof trousers for road & light off road/trail use rather than full MX articulated knee armour & off road armoured shorts etc.
I tried these & the PandoMoto AAA equivalent & TBH these are way better made IMO.
These use way more of the abrasion resistant Dyneema fabric (as apposed to stretch Lycra in the Pandos) & the armour is slightly bigger and stays in the correct place better as they aren't as rediculously stretchy.
Fit appears better for me also as the Large fits my 5'10", 79kg, 34" waist, 32" inseam pretty well, although the stirrup straps are a little long, so SWMBO has shortened them a lillte for me.
These are well worth the extra ££ over the Pando offering IMO, I would not fancy the stitching or fabric holding up in an off or the armour staying in place on them.
Overall very happy & saving for the Bowtex Elite shirt now ;-)
I had been looking at these for a while and when I saw them discounted I couldn't resist. I received them quickly and tried them on the size was perfect thanks to other reviews . They fit nice and tight and the quality seems very good l can't comment on the AAA and hope to not find out but overall very pleased
Undeniably, the quality is top notch. No questions around that. They feel very nice and cool to the touch, and don't act as a heating layer underneath the regular jeans I'm wearing.
Unlike the Bowtex Elite jacket though, I can't say they are as "invisible" as I was hoping. They do add a bit of bulk underneath my jeans, and because of the foot straps, they tend to slide down around my waist and end up putting pressure on the lower waist area. Even though they fit me perfectly while standing, moving around or riding my bike means they keep sliding down and eventually I have to pull them back up.
Definitely try these on, flex your knees, see how they behave with your body type while moving, before you buy.
Expensive but the large fitted my 34 frame perfectly. I'm shorter so would have preferred a shorter leg but they're tight fitting so the knee armour doesn't slip down much.
I can wear normal trousers and still be protected. Very pleased with them and the quick service received.
