Adventure lids are the perfect foil for adventure bikes. Here are our five biggest-hitting options...
Customers have mixed feelings about the Arai Tour X5 helmet. While many praise its comfort, ventilation, and wide field of vision, some note issues with noise and internal rattling. Several customers appreciate the ease of fitting communication systems and the helmet's stylish design. However, concerns about certain components, such as vent adjustments and fit around the ears, are mentioned. Many are satisfied with the helmet, citing high quality, but a few consider its internal finishing not up to Arai's usual standards.
I purchased the Arai Tour X5 for 2 reasons - the extra wide aperture of the adventure style helmet gives me fantastic vision & the fluorescent yellow stands out a mile giving me security of mind that motorists will see me coming a mile off. If it’s good enough for the police in Europe then it’s good enough for me. ?
I absolutely love this helmet. I don’t have an adventure bike but chose this adventure style because I was struggling with being able to turn my head far enough at some junctions to see oncoming traffic. This adventure style has an extremely wide aperture which allows me to see much further without having to strain my neck and so making it safer. I get a sense of freedom rather than the claustrophobic feel I get from my normal helmet. It’s nice & light and I love the colour too.
Looks amazing, well built, and so comfortable. I know there are many stories about what "head" you have compared to different brands. I tend to fit OK in most lids, but when I tried this on I knew it was the one!!! And it's the Rolls Royce of visor mechanisms. Double D ring too. Perfect.
This is a great lid, it’s light, comfortable and quiet ish, you don’t the same drag from the peak I’ve had with other similar style helmets, making turning your head at speed for those life saver looks easy, the vents work really well and I’ve been able to operate them on the move with gloves on, in exceptionally heavy rain I did get some leaks around the top of the visor which required a stop to dry the inside, but I can’t fault the helmet for that the rain was biblical, except for my last lid I’ve used Arai helmets for 20 years and it’s so nice to be back in one again, the combination of quality and safety is reassuring.
Typical high end Arai. Useful spaces for intercom now. More rounded visor profile. Comes with pin lock too
True to size fit, quality helmet and price matched, great stuff from SBS as usual.
This is my second Arai and well pleased. Nice and snug fit, not too noisey and the peak doesn't get caught by the wind when turning head side to side.
Have always have arai helmets, but this is my first adventure style helmet.
Typical arai quality, and stylish design.
Pads will need to be broken in slightly but that will come with a bit of use.
Doesn't fit as snug as my rx7 but I think if I sized down it would have been way too small.
Not had the chance to try on the road yet but happy so far!
I've run 2 X4 lids back to back to for past 6 years so I know them very well. My only issue with them was the seal on the pin lock and misting. Everything else was great.
I couldn't wait to upgrade to the X5 and jumped in the Black Friday deals, we've been waiting a decade for it!
From the off it didn't feel right like the X4. I had to remove all the optional padding to get it somewhere comfy but never had to do this before.
If you are an intercom user then there is something to put in these large holes inside the lid. If not, your ears are going to sit uncomfortably inside these cut outs and that makes it a seriously loud lid!
The front brow padding now has two cut outs for whatever reason but that now leaves two round indents on the front of your head every time you take it off. It looks like your sprouting horns!
The peak no longer comes down far enough to be effective and is now an ornament. The previous one as great and I couldn't imagine not riding peaked again.
And lastly, as others have mentioned, the rear exhaust cut outs. Shabby as hell for a lid at this price.
Its still a good looking kid though and the visor and the field of view is amazing. The pin lock looks to be much approved too but I didn't try it in the wet.
Maybe with an intercom in it it would be a different story.
I've sold the lid and now using a Neotec 3. Same sort of money but all the mod cons. It's fantastic.
I don't I'll go back to Arai after many years. They need to modernise.
Looks great and very comfortable. Haven't tried it out on the road yet due to the weather so can't comment further.
Always been an Arai fan, have an rx7v and been toying with an adventure style helmet since I got my Hypermotard.
This colourscheme came out and was too good to miss.
Can't fault it - usual build quality, ease of use, comfort and style.
This was a vanity purchase to match new bike as I already owned an X5. The service as always for the Harlow team was excellent. The X5 is great and a real improvement from the X4.
After wearing Arai helmets for over 20 years I can regrettably say the X5 is a bit of a let down. I find it very noisy compared to the X4, visor seal isn't amazing and the top vent rattles when closed to the point I thought something was falling off my bike. We checked other new X5s in store and all the vents have the same issue. Sportsbikeshop staff & service top notch as always just a poor show from Arai. I will definitely be considering a different brand in the near future.
Very pleased with this product and the service from the retailer
Had the Tour x 4, & the Klim Krios Pro and this helmet is better. Not a slight as the Klim but much quieter.
Great visor, the peak is less prone to wind than the X4.
Well recommended.
I have own the Arai Tour X 4 for a number of years and it was great. I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Tour X 5 because I was due a new helmet.
Firstly the Pinlock wouldn't sit in the visor properly so I returned it. Eventually it needed a new visor and Pinlock. Then the top vent on the helmet constantly rattled. Returned again and it was fixed. Then one of the cheek pads came loose and wouldn't go back properly. Whilst trying to locate it I noticed the stitching coming loose and unraveling. The whole quality of the internals of the helmet are poor. If you look at the Arai RX7 interior it is far better.
The helmet is quiet enough and the new rounder visor gives good all round vision.
I just feel like Arai have built the helmet to a budget and charged a high quality price.
It's an Arai, so safety as standard. It is a very comfortable helmet and the peak is well designed so I do not feel any real buffeting (even when looking to the side at speed).
The channeling for cables and the prefit velcro pads for the microphone are brilliant, fitting my Packtalk Pro coms unit was a dream. Ear pockets fit the 45mm JBL speakers easily.
The visibility/ field of view is brilliant and the pinlock seals well. I prefer not having the brow vents.
The vent channeling from the chin bar vent to the visor works well.
Removing / replacing the visor and peak for maintenance/ cleaning is a doddle.
The only minor thing (which I find is an Arai thing) is that they don't really have detents for the visor, so a large gust of wind can push the visor down / closed. (It has to be quite a gust / high speed wind).
Really happy with it.
Upgraded to this helmet from a tour x4 overall Wood very good ,very comfortable and minimal wind noise and less bufferting than the x4
Also comes with pre installed Velcro for a intercom
Bought the Arai Tour x5 to replace a Schuberth that was damaged in a minor fall on gravel. Tried on over a dozen different helmets before finding this was the most comfortable. Bristol shop staff very, very helpful with testing the fit. The team also fitted a Cardo Packtalk edge for me - all part of the excellent service.
The helmet isn't the quietest but zero drag from the peak and so comfortable that I wore it for two full days of riding the day after buying it. My only criticism is that the fastening strap (two D-ring type) could be longer to allow easy on/off without fully unfastening it every time you take it off.
Overall, a great product complemented by great service from the great manager and staff at the Bristol shop.
Find it cheaper at any major motorcycle accessory retailer, online or in-store and we‘ll match it.
