Introducing... Sena Spider X Slim intercom

Sena's new slimline intercom promises top sound quality in a low-profile package

Sena are promising a sleek future for intercoms with their new Spider X Slim.

It’s a new Mesh-only device that separates the control module and battery pack to help spread weight and bulk around the helmet.

It’s a tactic that intercom brands have used in the past, including Sena, and it helps reduce aerodynamic disruption as well as distributing weight more evenly.

Sena say the battery can be stuck to the rear of the lid or installed into a battery chamber if the helmet has one.

An 11-hour lifespan is impressive for a small power unit, though it may not suit long-distance riders.

The Spider X-Slim boasts 40mm Bose speakers as part of Sena's recent collaboration with the noted audio technology company.

Comms capability is via Sena’s Mesh 3.0 protocol and a Mesh 2.0 option means the ability to communicate with riders who own older Sena Mesh systems.

As it’s a Mesh-only communicator, Bluetooth is purely there to connect the X Slim to your phone to allow calls and audio to come to the device. Bluetooth can’t be used to communicate with other intercoms.

That means the only other intercoms it can connect with directly are other Sena Mesh units, or some Interphone Mesh units as those use Sena chips.

To connect with other brands riders would need to use Sena’s Wave phone app, which links riders using mobile phone data signal. The other riders in the group would need to install the Wave app and use their intercoms as headsets.

The sleek looks of the new Spider X Slim are enhanced by giving riders an element of customisation.

Three faceplates come in the box to replace the standard fitment. That gives giving a choice of black, chrome, white or silver to complement the helmet design.

The Sena Spider X-Slim will be available in summer 2026 and the list price is expected to be £239 for a single unit and £459 for a dual pack.
