HJC’s flagship dual-sport helmet takes on 6700 miles across Europe, Turkey, and Georgia to prove whether it delivers
This is a perfect helmet build quality is top class. Fits as is should and is very quiet. Ventilation is good and the pin lock and sun visor are brilliant. Would definitely recommend this one
I bought this helmet to replace my Klim Krios Pro that I had used for the last five years.
The HJC seemed light years ahead in terms of quality compared to a new Klim. In the flesh the paint work and design is stunning in this colour way. The interior is plush and proved to be extremely comfortable on long distances. The internal drop down sun visor works well, although the lever can be difficult to find at first. The helmet also comes with a dark tinted visor and pin lock insert. It is heavier than my Klim, but it wasn't noticeable on the move. So, overall a great helmet.
Or so I thought!
My first trip using this helmet ended up in real disappointment. The peak flexes and vibrates annoyingly at any speed over 50mph. I tried this on multiple bikes with and without fairings. But, the biggest flaw with this helmet is the visor. The ratchet system for the visor is very positive. When the visor is opened, the ratchet slams the visor into the peak. This put two dents/scratches in the visor right in my eye line. The peak sits very close to the fully open visor.
The seal along the top of the visor opening is also an issue. It is very hard. This scratched the top 25mm of the visor and pin lock insert as the visor was opened and closed. Unlike other helmets there is no visor adjustment to address this. With the visor damaged by the seal, it made riding in low sun a real challenge.
I therefor returned the helmet after my week away, and bought another brand. Ian at the Boston branch was superb in dealing with my complaints and the exchange process.
I think the visor issue which lets this helmet down could be easily rectified by HJC. Then this helmet would be a good choice in this competitive market.
This is my third HJC helmet, so I expected this to be as good as the two RPHA70’s I’d had previously; however, I have been rather disappointed.
Although the detent on the visor is good and holds its position at all speeds and openings, when closed it lets rain in at its top edge. There is no obvious way to adjust the visor to stop this happening.
The aerodynamics of the helmet also stop the wind blowing the water off your visor to clear it, too. I’ve never had another helmet like this in 38 years of riding.
The worst feature, though, is that if you remove the foam pads to fit intercom earpieces, this exposes a hard plastic reinforcement piece in the cheek pads that digs into your ears. After 30 mins of riding the pain in your ears is quite unpleasant.
Not impressed with this lid at all.
It’s really comfy for me, came with a 120 pinlock and an extra light smoke visor, venting seems good in the heat. Love the mat finish and the internal sun visor is adjustable and works great. Overall I love the quality and easy to remove peak and swapping the visors over is really easy?
Having already owned the HJC RPHA 12, I knew that could expect ultimate comfort and quality from HJC. This helmet maintains that standard and I absolutely love it. I would say it s priced perfectly, making it accessible to those not wanting to spend the higher amount that you would with some other brands in the adventure category. Compared to others, this seems to be priced somewhere in the middle which is part of the reason for me choosing it. You can t help but smile when you initially take it out of the box, and trying it on for the first time just felt like perfection. I would like to add that the staff at Sportsbikeshop, Reading helped me install the Cardo Packtalk Edge which is further confirmation of quality service and support. I won t be changing from this helmet anytime soon.
