Reviews HJC’s F100 flipover brings fibreglass construction, multiple shell sizes and touring-friendly practicality - but as ever with helmets, fit is everything
It does what it says on the tin, opening and closing is easy and the visors work well. The only downside is wind in the eyes at over 40 MPH with the chin guard up, it becomes very uncomfortable very quickly, also the XL is slightly bigger than the sizing guide suggests. Otherwise a good lid
Ive had this 11 months.
Likes: light, great width of vision, quite quiet. When chin bar flipped fully back and visor down its very quiet too. Has a sun visor and pin lock. Visor is optical grade clear. Great ventilation. Love the dual homologation. 3 year warranty. SBS & HJC after sales warranty is exceptional.
Dislikes: The design flaw is that the pinlock visor catches on the rubber seal when you flip it up and down. As a result after several months the micro scratches have ruined the pinlock. The sun visor stopped flipping down and was jamming on one side. The full flip over of the chin bar stopped working and was jamming half way. Forcing it resulted in the side panel hinge cover popping off. When flipping the chin bar down it really squeezes your cheeks in. This may get better with time. It is a little tight on my forehead and was painful after an hour, but has eased with time, but still not great. My dodgy hesd I guess. The chin strap seems to creep and loosen. I've had to retighten it a couple of times. No built in integrated comms/ sat nav available, but that's perhaps a bit disingenuous on my part.
2 stars due to all the issues I've had. I think perhaps I've been unlucky, however the scratched pinlock issue is a bad design flaw. It may have been addressed now by some modification. HJC were great sorting the problems and fitted a new pinlock and side plates. Its like a new helmet now. SBS comms were great and in resolving the warranty claim.
Fits well, I'm a 58.5cm head and went with large....pre 20.06 regs I was always a medium in HJC. Coming from a Rpha 90 I wanted something light and this ain't bad..weighs 1616 grams. I ride a naked bike no screen and it's actually quieter than expected...let down a little by wind noise on the left side via the sun visor slide switch....Don't understand after all the design effort HJC don't fix stuff like this especially as noise is a big issue for some. My Rpha 90 was the same as well. However it's not bad with the F100 so don't be put off. Overall I'm chuffed I bought it!
What a great helmet. Feels like it was made for me, the fit is great. High quality finish as usual from HJC. Quieter than I expected and easy to fit an aftermarket intercom.
I liked my i1000 but it was heavy! This is much lighter and very comfortable indeed. The field of view is very good with the visor down and when it is flipped over it is brilliant!
Fold back helmet easy to use pin lock ready light comfy
My previous Hjc was open face. In this new one I feel more protected from the elements. I’m happy to say it’s considerably quieter too. Having a member of staff on hand to help me with correct fitting gave me some peace of mind too.
Before visiting the Birmingham store I had my heart set on Schoei Neotech 3. Unfortunately, it didn’t fit my head shape. After trying 3-4 other flip-fronts in exactly the same size (L, 59-60cm) and with the guidance of the excellent staff, the HJC F100 was the “one”. The build quality of the HJC is very good, OK perhaps not in the same league as the Shoei, but still excellent. My advice - put “fit” before brand every time. On this occasion, compromising on brand image saved me £260 and the HJC “flip-over” has now won me over.
+ves: good visibility and ventilation; comfy.
-ves: limited visor positions; visor removal is a bit fiddly.
This was my first HJC Helmet in many years of biking. It's comfortable and reasonably quiet. The visor gives a wide field of vision compared with my previous helmet which I find particularly beneficial. So far, there isn't anything I dislike about it. The staff at Boston also transferred my comms to the new helmet which was returned by mail within 36 hours - excellent service.
All I can say is that it is not only a perfect fit but also very comfy. It is a weird feeling of tightness around the head (as a newbie biker) but over time one gets used to it and, I also have installed anti fog visor onto the pinlock which helped immensely. Along with Cardo bluetooth. Made my rides awesome. It has a sunblock visor within as well. The best part is the ventilation units on top and at the chin area. This helps breathing fresh air (although depends where you are riding as lorry's burnt disel smell is not great to inhale lol)
I chose this helmet as it was the only dual homologated modular helmet that fit me well within my budget.
With a small head and longish narrow face it was cosy on the cheek bones and around my head.
It’s comfy and feels light. Came with a pinlock which I found quite easy to fit. Release action of the strap underneath the chin is great.. Really happy
The HJC F100 is a versatile full face and flip helmet. Once flipped the chin guard is fully out of the way reducing drag. The visor and sun visor both work well. The interior cushioning allows space for a comfortable fit around your ears.
Bigger than other XL helmets due to the big void at the front.
Fits my head shape petfectly. I wanted a glip top without the "beak" for blood biking.
Good quality for the price so good value.
Visor rattles or it may be wind noise when cracked open for ventilation.
Like all helmets an intercom unit has not been thought about in the design.
For a P&J helmet the wind noise is not too bad, ventilation is good. The visor, sun visor and chin guard are really easy to operate on the move wearing gloves.
For a P and J homologated helmet ,this one fits my size L head very well
