Advice & Guides If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
I bought these after several years in riding Jeans but when touring the Jeans would leave sore patches on the backs of your legs where contact with the seat for prolonged periods were evident. These trousers have a nice mix of materials - mesh to allow air ventilation and a stretchy material (like neoprene) on the carcass which adds to comfort. You can feel air circulation but it is a gentle flow so not distracting. Time will tell on long trips but I am hopeful the small amount of air circulation will overcome the sore areas in contact with the bike seat when touring in hot weather.
Just as good as the jacket. Air flow and comfort unbeatable. With these hot summers this gear is a must.
Really great trousers. They fit well and are really comfortable to wear, while keeping me cool in the summer
Great comfort, excellent ventilation for very hot days making riding in the heatwave a pleasure.
Price is high which made it a bigger shame when a single stabilising stitch that stops the Coccyx Protector Pocket from flapping out of position snapped easily when I bent down to pick up gloves when I dropped them, the trousers were 2 weeks old. Sports Bike Shop (who are excellent in my opinion) replaced them immediately.
Another issue is albeit amour is included for hips and knees the coccyx protector pocket is left empty and getting armour to fit may be difficult. Sports Bike Shop didn’t have a listing for it so I have emailed Knox directly for help on where to get the protector insert.
Despite these issues it is an excellent product but at that price it needs to be just a bit better, hence I have held back my rating to 4 stars.
Great fit, great airflow through them, only problem I’ve had is them riding up over my short boots exposing my legs. Sorted by my wife with some added elastic. Also black is not the best colour in the hot sun when stationary.
Clearly a very well made product. The trousers are relatively light weight - compared to my two pairs of riding jeans - with a lower protection rating too.
These fit as expected, according to size. Very comfortable due to the flex in the material, and so better than my jeans in that respect. They were very cool, flowing sufficient air up to the high 20 degrees yesterday (08 July 2026) in the UK. However, once temperatures got above 30 degrees they struggled to keep me cool; my jeans also struggled at such temperature but, being cotton mix, the jeans don't cling to my skin.
These Knox trousers clung to my skin, especially around the knee area, which made the ride uncomfortable & unpleasant. I don't know if buying one size bigger would address this issue, as the armour would then sit in the wrong place...
On balance, my best pair of jeans function better, flowing less air but not having any clinging hot spots. The clinging, clammy hot spots are due to the synthetic material of these Knox trousers. My jeans also have better armour and a higher protection rating, all for much the same price.
These mesh hot weather trousers are nice to wear, the lightweight material is more comfortable and more airy than my previous Oxford mesh trousers. The attention to detail is good. and I can wear them outside or inside my boots. No gear is going to cope with engine heat when you are stuck in town traffic at 30C but above about 20mph these are great
Wanted a new pair of comfortable ventilated trousers for a trip to Europe. Ladies trousers size 12 fitted well but were too short in the leg subsequently the knee armour sat too high on the leg and was also too small to the job properly. Ended up buying men’s size 30 which was longer in the leg, it had proper size knee armour which fitted comfortably over my knee. Have just worn these trousers for 5 days in up to 36C. The ventilation was good, comfort was great and colour did not show marks. Would recommend these if you ride in hot weather.

Well done Southampton branch!
Really flexible stretchy material and super ventilation for those warmer days, comfy on the bike and armour sits in the right place, enough room to go over Sports boots with heavy shin armour and the new fastening tab keeps things in place better
