Oxford Hardy 2.0 Wax Cotton Jacket - Khaki

Verified Customer Reviews for Oxford Hardy Wax Textile Jacket

Our customers say…
Customers praise this jacket for its stylish retro look, excellent build quality, comfort, warmth and useful pocket layout. Many wear it both on and off the bike, and several note good rain resistance and reliable materials. Sizing runs small for some, so checking measurements carefully is important. A few mention snug sleeves or cuffs, but overall customers are very pleased and would happily buy it again.

Feels well made, comfortable and protective. Removable lining is a plus and the zipped cooling vents really work well in warmer weather. Nice retro 'wax' styling without the cold oily feel and you could wear this as a casual off bike jacket and feel smart.

A brilliant jacket

This is a brilliant jacket... wax cotton material with armour and a removable lining. Adjustable venting is a feature most welcome on hot days but the jackets flexibility is the ace in the pack, easily warm enough on colder days with the liner in and it's so comfortable from the moment it's put on, easy to use and live with. For me the cherry on top is the way it ages...it's just a superb looking piece of kit. Oxford's pricing strategy seems to be to offer quality kit at a fair price-point. Highly recommended.

Same as a few other reviews, sizing is snug, and looks classic . Suggest you try a couple of sizes if you can. For me the lower arms are particularly snug but I don’t intend to wear it with the thermal liner much so it’s ok.
I chose this over the Hardy 2 as it’s a little lighter to wear and I don’t need the extra waterproof liner ( this has got a fully waterproof membrane). Great value jacket.

Got for the looks and wanted an alternative to leather. Didn’t think paying for version 2 was worth it. Suits my triumph well. Fit is spot on - I’m a 42 chest and this is a large. Tried XL first but was too big/baggy. Removable liner works well but not needed it in the recent heat! Vents ok but not the greatest. Shoulder and elbow armour seems ok. Would’ve liked a back protector included and you will need one with a Velcro strip to attach into the ‘pocket’ (that’s more like y-fronts)!!! If you like the waxed cotton retro/urban style aesthetic you won’t find much better for the price.

I think has to be one of the best looking retro jackets about I wear it most of the year because of the removable liner. I found it gets better with age and a few times getting wet which gives it that aged look.

I bought this jacket after viewing youtube videos and am generally happy with it.
I do feel that the sizes run a bit tight in the upper part however . As a guy with a 42" chest i played safe and ordered size XL. The sleeves are long and length is fine but i find it is a bit tight in the arms with the thermal liner in . im constantly fidgeting in it to get comfy and when i lift my arms above horizontal it pulls in the back and my arms feel like they are in a straight jacket. Another size up i feel would be too big elsewhere . its better without the liner for me . Quality is superb and it really looks class . No tried it out yet in the rain so cannot vouch for waterproofness. its a great jacket for an upright type bike like my suzuki gsr 600 but not sure if it would work on a sport bike tbh

I really like this jacket. Perfect for the look I want. Plenty of pockets. Reviews say it fit small which is true. I bought large being a confident medium 73kg and short, which nearly fit but the body was too big. Fast response online with my exchange question. Took it to Boston to swap - very helpful. Padding sits in the right places. If you want a fitted jacket this isn't the one. It's more a comfort fit. Cuffs on sleeves are fairly small but I'm OK with that. The textile fabric feels quality and the thermal padding is easy to remove and refit. Snood fits nicely in the neck which like the cuffs can feel snug abut has poppers for adjustment.

I was looking for a textile jacket for a trip to Spain that wasn't too bulky and could be worn casually as well. This jacket ticked all the boxes, comfortable, plenty pockets, elbow and shoulder protection and at a great price.

I bought this jacket based solely on its looks and I’m not disappointed. I have a bike that is a retro so the gear I normally wear looks, well, a little daft on it.
This has the look of the old wax cotton jackets of my youth but a bit more stylish.
I’d read other people’s reviews on this jacket and noted criticisms but went ahead anyway.
I am for the most part very happy with the jacket but, as others have said the cuffs are a little too tight to get gloves under and conversely a little too bulky to get gloves over (mine at least). This may improve if the liner is removed but as yet, in mid March it’s too cold for me to give a verdict on that.
I also found the brass zips on the waist pockets a bit sharp on my fingers but this may ease with use taking the edge off then. Same with the pop fasteners I expect the use of them to get easier with a bit more use.
On a personal level I always struggle with the neck closures on jackets and would prefer that it was either a Velcro or magnetic fastener
I found the fit to be just right ordering my normal size.
I also found it warm enough, even in March, to ride with just at T shirt under (I did regret that after around 60 miles though).
It didn’t claim to be waterproof so I don’t expect it to be.
As I said it was more of a styling thing for me and on that score I personally think it’s spot on, even down to the period looking plaid lining on the collar. I’m hoping it will get the same patina the jackets of old got but even if not I’m happy with my purchase and, as always, the service from SBS is exemplary.
