Shoei's Ex-One retro motocross lid has the looks, but can it deliver in the performance stakes?
Customers express high satisfaction with the Shoei Ex-Zero helmet. They appreciate its lightweight construction, excellent fit, and high-quality materials. The drop-down visor is a favorite feature, providing good vision and easy adjustment. Although some find it noisy, ear plugs help mitigate this. Many customers value the retro style and full-face protection. It's noted for comfort on long trips and compatibility with various goggles. Despite being pricier, most agree it's worth it for the superior protection and build quality.
I tried many similar styled helmets and none were anywhere near as good as the Ex-Zero. It's extremely comfortable, lightweight, looks great and the drop down visor is very useful. My sunglasses also slide into it relatively easily.
It might be more expensive than some of the others but it's definitely worth the extra!
Can't fault this helmet, it's very comfortable, it's quiet considering there is no full visor and it looks brilliant. Love the option of the pull down visor, it tucks away nicely so not to ruin the look but saved the day for me when it rained on a recent ride.
I'd definitely recommend.
I have not been a shoei buyer before, wrong shaped head. I was told things have changed so ordered true to size. Helmet fits perfectly. It is extremely light. Yes it is noisier than a full face, although the gain is better visibility. I use ear plugs when on motorways. A fantastically well engineered and finished lid.
I have not had a Shoei helmet for a number of years but I really liked this style and colour way. Paint is excellent and build quality is what you would expect from a premium lid. The built in visor easily clears glasses if you wear them and is adjustable so that it sits above your nose. Fit is accurate to the size (L) and very comfortable. Needed a replacement visor and the customer service and in-store team sorted me out without any issues. Have used SportsBikeShop for years and would recommend.
Great Shoei fit and high quality materials inside so the comfort is great right out of the box. No flimsy vents or add on pieces outside to break.
Front vents are not closable so bear that in mind in the winter.
Also bought the Shoei peak and that fits great and is good quality.
Very happy with this helmet.
I got asked to review this lid more or less straight after buying it. Don't think you can give a proper review, after owning it a few days. So here goes the Ex zero feels light and is comfortable to wear on a long trip. Bear in mind it is an open lid so can be a bit noisy. Ear plugs sorted that out for me. I also use a pair of Oakley goggles with mine. The construction of the shoei lid is very nice, looks like it'll last a few years. And with a five year warranty you can't go wrong. So to sum it up great lid and a good price
Awesome lid, great looking, very light and comfortable. Quality being Shoei
Cracking looking helmet and super light. Very comfortable and I bought the peak to go with it. Now I just need a scrambler to go with it!
Thanks to the SportsBikeShop returns system, I got a whole range of retro helmets to try. And they were all very, helmet'y. However, what swung it in the Ex-Zero's favour was the slots for glasses the others don't have, and that no reviewer seems to mention (I watched quite a few). The sizing matched all the other helmets I tried and it squashes my ears just the same amount. Weight and vision are, for me, much better than a full-face. I intend wearing clear protective glasses, and have swapped out the visor for the smoked one (2 minute job) to cut down on glare as required. It swings down very easily btw, and I like the fact I can adjust how low it comes so it doesn't rest on my huge conk. I've added the Shoei peak too, which is very secure. Worn with Loop ear defenders, which work beautifully.
Excellent well built helmet with integral visor. Very comfortable (for me) having come from SCHUBERTH helmets in the past. Be aware, this is going to be a noisy helmet (it's basically open faced) so decent ear plugs are a must but on the plus side. You feel alive in the bike!! Goes well with my Oxford goggles. I would definitely buy again. And with a range of colours to suit all tastes, what's not to like. Other than the price, that is!!!
Great helmet very light love the drop down visor. Great service as usual from SBS and good price.
Great looking Helmet with perfect true to size fit. Extremely comfy and even in close to zero temperatures, still warm for the ol noggin. Easy to retro fit my sena system to. Spot on service and delivery from sportsbikeshop making it an easy purchase process and a happy customer.
Excellent fitting helmet. Very high quality finish. Has the wider vision of an open face but the extra security of the full face shell. Helmet is quite noisy but you don't buy one these to go touring. This is a Sunday morning blast on B roads with a small but rapid non faired motorcycle with a good cafe as the destination. Sportsbikeshop service was great and included an unexpected discount. - Thanks Guys
I've been looking for a new helmet that provided excellent vision and the ex zero ticked all the boxes. I've had it now for a few months and really love it. It's so light. I should add that it is much much louder than my previous full face lid so had to buy better ear plugs. I've also paired it with Barstow goggles. I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend the ex zero.
Hard to say enough great stuff about this helmet. It feels amazing to wear, really lightweight and comfortable but the feeling of riding on sunny days with wind passing through the open face is great. I have always ridden with full face helmets and this has really taken me back to some of the off-road days I used to do and enabled me to reconnect even more with the joy of riding. Great all round vision (you hardly feel like you're even wearing it) and works well with sunglasses or for longer rides the 100% Barstow goggles I have. Really looks the part and the build quality from Shoei is simply excellent. I don't see many of them on the road, possibly due to the price tag as £350 isn't cheap, but I love it for that. Be original. For the summer months this is without a doubt a brilliant helmet to own, especially for those looking for a more off road scrambler or vintage look. Banging. I love it.
Have been wearing this daily for 2 weeks now and have been nothing but impressed. Fit is as expected. The flip down visor works ok up to about 60mph, after that you're going to need some other form of eye cover. Sunglasses are ok up 70ish but for any prolonged speeds you will need some goggles. I have the peak with mine which adds to the retro feel, initially you find the wind catches it but very quickly I learnt to dip my head slightly and all is now good. It's opened faced so not quiet, but not as noisy as I thought it would be, on my 20 mile commute to work I have not felt the need for ear plugs but for longer rides I do use them. I tried on several different makes of retro lids, all of which were good (and cheaper) but I felt that the Shoei offered better head protection, which after all is what it's all about. Also has a 5 year warranty. Sportsbike as per usual were superb.
I usually ride with an open-face helmet and this is exactly the same feel, with the added chinbar protection
You don't see the bar once wearing it.
Drop down visor is the best I have had and does adjust so it won't sit in the end of your nose like internal ones I have had before do.
Buy one, you won't regret it.
Good fit but I had to size up from my normal Shark sizes. Looks good and great ventilation for warmer weather. Not heavy but Quite noisy at higher speeds but you would expect that. All in all I like it, good product.
When I changed from an adventure bike to a cruiser I wanted a helmet more fitting with my new Harley-Davidson Sportst...
