Verified Customer Reviews for Oxford Montreal 4.0 Textile Trousers

Our customers say…
Customers have shared varied experiences with these trousers. While some found them to be warm, comfortable, and true to size, others had issues with waterproofing, particularly at the crutch seam, and found the knee pads uncomfortable. The built-in braces and removable thermal liner were appreciated, though they may cause inconvenience. Some customers noted concerns over material thickness and durability compared to other brands. Overall, many found them a good fit for colder weather and their overall performance satisfactory.

I'm not a fan of trousers but these are great. The fit is good, perhaps a bit on the small side, and they're almost too warm over a thermal base layer. The included braces are excellent and help keep everything in place. Great value too

Nice fit although I would have preferred 34" leg. Only 32" available. I'm 6'2". Braves nice extra.

I got these alongside the oxford jacket as a loan from sportsbikeshop whilst my Alpinestars Andes v3 gear was on a warranty claim.
What I can easily say is that even my faulty alpinestars was much better than this. These trousers are not waterproof, at least not on either of the two rides I used them on (2hrs and 116 miles each way on a cb500f).
They were also quite bulky with the hard armour not conforming to shape like the A* flex armour that you now get.
I felt the zip together was a token gesture with about a 6 inch strip at the back that didnt feel very secure at all, plus no weather benefit there either. The braces are velcro looped onto the trousers which means extra straps to tangle up in as you get kitted up.
I also found I couldn't quite get them to not pull tight against my knee on the bike, though I was also wearing an extra pair of trousers and underlayer beneath them.
They are cheap, and there is a reason for that. I generally find oxford stuff to be good quality but coming from (even warranty failing) alpinestars gear maybe I have become a bit spoiled with what better stuff there is out there!

Just the thing for a winter ride!

I'm not normally a winter rider, because, well, BRRR, man, so I have armoured kevlar jeans, but my bike has a product safety recall and I must have it up to the menders' in Tamworth, in JANUARY. Ugh. Seriously? So, I need a pair of pants that will keep me warm for a 20 mile trip when it could well be *freezing*. Well, at least these will keep me pretty snug.

I like these trousers - I ride almost every day thru all weathers and so far these have kept me dry and warm in very heavy rain and temperatures down to “feels like” -4. I found the sizing to be accurate and my only doubt are the braces which look as tho they will not last as long as the trousers. I would recommend them for day to day UK riding.

Small size is as stated and are a little large and long for my 30W 30L. They could cinch in at the waist but I find the included braces are more comfortable. I am confident the thermal lining will be effective and have I have stayed dry so far. This is my first piece of Oxford clothing and they look and feel really well put together, only the armour provision lets them down a little, but hey! The Ghost armour from my (not Oxford) jeans fit perfectly. At the on offer price an absolute bargain.

The trousers are warm, comfy and a good fit. However, the knee pads are uncomfortable to walk around in, they rubbed my shins when walking a short distance at the destination. They were uncomfortable on the hour ride home too. This was not an issue on second ride in them (hour ride without walking anywhere). Hoping they get comfier with a bit of time otherwise I will need to whip them out.
Knee pads aside, have been happy with them so far in the colder weather

Mainly the price. Bargain at £85. Look good. Decent pockets. Thermals are easy to get in and out. Only tried in light rain once so far and they were fine but can’t comment on waterproofing in a deluge, hence one star off. Cool enough when it’s hot too. In short typical Oxford quality at a sensible price.

Waterproof riding pants that fit

I ordered these pants 1 size up after reading they come up small. Well, in my experience they don't. These pants fit true to size. Luckily there is enough waist adjustment to pull them in about 2". Unlike some other Oxford pants I own, these are not as baggy in the leg and the leg closure works better.
The fabric feels durable but it is a bit stiff but I am sure they will wear in. The lining is super warm so I doubt that I will keep it in place. I prefer microfibre leggings to regulate my body temperature.
The regular inside leg length (32") is about perfect with boots. (I am 6ft tall).
My only gripe is the pop stud waist fastener. It doesn't stay locked. I will have to find a better solution.

Questions and Answers

Questions and Answers

  • Can you please tell me if these trousers have a built in Dry2Dry membrane and is it laminated or a drop liner? Or do they have a separate, removable Dry2Dry waterproof liner?

    November 22, 2024

We can confirm that the Dry2Dry waterproof and breathable membrane is a drop liner. The membrane is not laminated, nor can the waterproof liner be removed from this product.
