After much deliberation over the right rucksack to go for, our reviewer chose one of Kriega's newest bags
Customers express high satisfaction with the Kriega backpacks. Highlights include superior waterproofing, high-quality materials, and robust build quality. The backpacks comfortably handle varied loads like laptops, clothing, and daily essentials, even under biking conditions. While some customers desire more external pockets for easy access to keys or phones, the overall feedback emphasizes the bags' practicality, comfort, and durability. The modular design and adjustable straps provide added versatility, making them suitable for commuting and day trips. Despite the premium price, the backpacks are deemed worth every penny.
Or what I needed, I didn't want bags spoiling the lines of the bike and with a round trip of 140 miles I needed a bag that would take a 17' laptop as well as clothes for the day. its extremely well made and most impotently you cannot feel it on your back when you ride as it literally becomes part of you, withe the added bladder I also use it green laning.
This is my 3rd piece of Kriega luggage, I got this one to keep my laptop safe on my commute and dry and it is faultless. Having been through several downpours it is 100% waterproof. Not only that it is super comfortable, I don't feel it when I'm riding at all.
Loved the look of the Trail 18, and wanted a drypack style. But the Trail 18 has a large portion not waterproofed, so this won.
Normal kriega quality, fabrics are ace.
But the side straps are brilliant, it arrived with them tight to keep it flat, and it looked so slick and streamlined, which is what I thought I might lose with a pack this size. But it looks ace tightened down, but the second you loosen the sides you unleash the full volume.
I use it for commuting and will use it for other uses too. Waterproofs in the outer pocket, camera, layers, etc. in the drybag.
I have no qualms over choosing this over the Trail 18 now, it looks ace and is far more versatile for me.
I own a few Kriega items.
On my way home from work last night it decided to rain, alot!
My PC and everything stayed dry.
When you have adjusted it to your size, you don't know you're wearing it.
Holds my stuff when out and about on my bike.
Good and robust. Expands if needed. Could do with a smaller pocket for keys etc as they get lost in the main pocket but no real complaints.
I must say I've been looking for one of these packs for about a year now and got this at a great price. The straps adjust well and have plenty of play in them for a taller rider without being too long, and the Quadloc harness is an awesome feature too. I've already made a modification to mine that should be standard but isn't. I bought an extra waterproof liner for my Sling Bag Pro (the perfect fit for the front non-waterproof pocket) and reversed the velcro, giving me a now waterproof front pocket too, so now mine is fully waterproof, as the front pocket usually isn't. The main compartment is fully waterproof. Great size and great service as usual from SBS, can't fault them!
The Kriega R22 does everything you'd expect a high quality backpack to do. It's easy to adjust, and comfortable to wear. And it's supremely waterproof, what more could you ask.
This is a practical, well-made rucksack that is comfortable to wear and a good size for day-to-day use.
I've used it for commuting to work on my bike, carrying 2x laptops and chargers/accessories, plus gym gear and trainers, all of which fitted very easily in the main waterproof compartment.
The front compartment is wide enough also for a laptop/tablet.
I would have liked a smaller zip-up pocket around the waist for easy access to keys, wallet, phone etc. but you can bolt these on with a separate Kriega product.
It is expensive, but the build quality is really excellent with comfortable straps and plenty of adjustments to ensure a good fit.
It looks great too.
Great pack, with a decent volume. Waterproof main compartment gives confidence even for us fair weather riders. My only reason for 4 stars is it should come with at least one out side pocket for easy access. But this can be corrected with add-ons
When considering buying Do not focus on the price, focus on the quality.
Having done best part of 500 miles with the bag so far I've found it nothing but brilliant!
The water proof roll top section is excellent, love the white liner so I don't have to fumble around looking for stuff (replaceable if you stain it or break, doubt that will happen).
The stitching quality is on point, no breaks frays etc. Built for bikers, I have no worries about turbulence on the bike.
The style is also excellent, feels comfortable, fashionable and the locking system stays put when riding, you forget it's even there!
Lots of additional strap ties too so they're not flapping around in the wind.
In terms of capacity I've just managed to fit the following inside:
3 days worth of clothes, hoody, coat, pair of trainers, chargers cables, thin waterproof trousers, spare vape stuff, sunglasses and some wash stuff.
I'm a 2XL in most clothes, trainers size 12.
Worth every penny of what I paid and I love how the range is modular so I will look to invest in the US-30 for a tail bag and US-10 or larger for anything else.
Considered a few, but wanted a truly waterproof bag for winter. I pack a (ridiculously) large lunch box, overnight oats pot, 15" laptop, leather shoes, trousers, shirt, socks, charger, headset, deodorant, hair wax, and some other tid bits. All fits snugly, but fits. So more than Enough room for the commute. Not had to to use it in the wet yet. But roll top fills me with confidence.
Kriega has done themselves proud by developing this backpack at a reasonable price (on sale at £142).
The only recommendation for other bags is that we need more smaller pockets on the outside of the bag for phone or key,
Excellent quality, you pay for what you get with some things, this being one of them. Very comfortable to ride with hopefully many years of use, great service as usual
Good quality bag. Well designed and made and has extra features that you don't get with others. Perfect size for biking as any bigger and you would be tempted to pack too much in to comfortably have on your back for any length of time.
I'm impressed by the quality of this backpack, really well made.
Okay admittedly it's not the cheapest backpack on the market, but with every £££.
I also added the 5 litre add on pack and phone carrier that attaches to the shoulder strap.
Fantastic as always with Kriega. I regularly commute on my bike, and this fits:
The main waterproof bag contains:
- 13inch MacBook Pro (space for larger)
- Cables / Charger bag
- A change of clothes
- Small Lunch box
The 4L outer pocket, though not waterproof has kept water out even in massive downpours.
In the outer pocket I carry both summer and bad weather gloves (typical changing British weather) a disc lock, and small gaffer tape roll. Still leaving me with a bit of space spare.
It fits all this with no issues, the form fit and quad lock lite fixing hold the bag against your brilliantly, feels like it is barely on your bag and keeps your aerodynamic.
Don't cheap out, this bag is 100% worth it. Kriega quality speaks for itself.
It ain't cheap, but it is good.
Plenty of space for a day's ride and, due to the great design, comfortable enough to wear the whole day too.
Excellent price and quick delivery, as per usual, from sportsbikeshop.
This is a great bag, not big enough if carrying a laptop and change of clothes for work but for day trips you can easily fit things for the day. You genuinely can't feel the weight on your shoulders
The R22 is the ultimate versatile mid-size pack offering 18 litres of waterproof storage, in addition to a 4 litre quick access front pocket. Long-term durability comes from a 420D Cordura and Nylon Ripstop construction, all built on Kriega's ground-breaking Quadloc-Lite, fully adjustable harness. The feature-rich R22 has the perfect mix of style and functionality, instantly recognisable as an iconic backpack by all-weather riders.
We would recommend the 3.75l reservoir, which can be found on quick find number 488221.
