Keis J501 Premium Heated Jacket - Black / Red
Customer Product Reviews
I had the original version a few years ago. It was bulky and I had to wear a size larger jacket. This is much thinner and lighter and fits under my proper size jacket. The pockets are a nice addition. I wear it instead of having the jacket liner in. It's very warm, too hot unless you have the temperature controller. Why Keis think this is an accessory I don't know. Well done to Sportsbikeshop for including it as a free gift. Sizing is very odd. I bought a size 3XS for my 37" chest. Only niggle is that the sleeves are just a bit too short and the cuffs a bit tight even on my slim forearms.
odd sizing but game changer!
Sizing is odd I could go down 2 sizes to L which would have been a better fit to my body but due to arms length/arm pit tightness wouldn't have been comfortable on the bike over the long term. The XL is a bit baggy but more comfortable on the bike so I stuck with that. having said all of that, you can clearly tell its built to a quality standard and on the low setting at 1 degree delicious with thermal liner out of my jacket and on my z1000sx I was sweating! enough said really... in future iterations I would love to see more heat in the frontal area (equivalent to the heat the back of the this version produces). Heating in the neck region I found less useful to be honest but that may just be me. honestly a really game changer in terms of my winter riding. I used to think twice before jumping on the bike in those cold mornings but now I just pop my jacket on knowing im covered and off I go.
Odd cut, amazing effect
I've been riding around in subzero with this over a t-shirt under my jacket, and it's been toasty. Top setting is almost too hot. It is a weird cut though, I'm 6'1" and about 14.5s, and I'm in a small. It should have been cut more like a cycling jacket with longer arms and drop. The M I tried was bunching up and far too bit. Definitely go a size down, but be wary that the arms might be too short. Cables get a bit in the way too: since they connect to your left hip, it means it dangles about near the rear wheel when not in use. I'm planning to solder up a coiled cord to fix that problem. Again though, it's revolutionised my winter riding. I can't believe I've only just gotten one: on balance, I love what it does.
This is fantastic! So far I've ridden in around 5°c weather, with a t shirt, the heated jacket and my alpinestars coat over the top (with no liner). The free heat controller (thanks guys) is set on low and there hasn't been a hint of cold, if anything it gets a bit too warm. If you're thinking about buying one, do it, it's well worth the money. And as always, great service from SBS.
Best bit of kit I've purchased
Excellent bit of kit and a must for anyone who is a winter commuter. It's like riding with the sunshine on your back.ensure to get a size smaller for a snug fit. So good I bought one for the girlfriend too. Highly recommend.
You need this in your life
If your bike could give you a hug to keep you warm whilst riding in the winter months, this is pretty much what it would feel like. I had a Keis heated vest previously which was great but I decided to upgrade this winter. This J501 is simply on another level to my old vest and is utterly fantastic. So far, it's been tested down to -5 and I still haven't needed to go past medium on the heat controller with just a T shirt underneath my jacket (Klim Latitude which is actually quite thin) - in fact the less you wear under heated jackets, the more you'll feel the warmth. My old vest is 3 years old and still going strong - the new one feels just as good quality so I have no doubt this one will last just as well. All in all a great product and one that you will not regret buying. Worth every single penny.
Very snugy, light and warm jacket. I was impressed with the heating in the collar. While the other heated jackets that I had, only had heating elements back and front this one also has a heated collar. It keeps me so much warmer. The controller is relatively small and easy to conceal under. I would strongly advise this jacket
Lovely and warm
Husband bought this for me as I kept complaining about the cold, it's a fabulous product. As usual excellent service from Sportsbikeshop and it arrived the next day, it was very easy for husband to fit the cable to the bike battery and it's like wearing a snug fitting all over hot water bottle. It has made my 1hr 15 min commute to and from work much easier and me much happier, kicking myself that I didn't do it earlier, it's not cheap but worth very penny, it's not too bulky and easy to control. Definitely recommend.
Quality, warm, heated jacket
Well made, good fit, and looks good off the bike. I'm a size 38" chest but bought the XS to fit over a merino base layer. It is just short enought to enable the Rukka jacket/trousers to zip together. I find the low setting still quite hot. Pity there's not a trickle heat setting for temperate weather. Really worth getting for the all-weather rider.
Tried this for the first time a couple of days ago - 170 miles in 5-6C temperatures and I didn't feel cold once. Had it set mainly on the lowest setting as even the medium setting got too hot. The jacket is well made and can be worn as a casual jacket off the bike without inducing ridicule! I normally take a 40 and the size guide said to order an XS but this was too tight - the S is perfectly sized. All in all this is the best thing I've bought this year
I'll never ride cold again
A well made jacket, which also looks like a 'normal' coat, styled very much like a 'paddock jacket'. I power it from the battery on my bike by the included 12v power lead. a simple connection and then 'plug n play'.. but for extra ££ you can get a battery pack to power it off the bike too. Good sizing with plenty of heating area, even in the collar. Heating areas in the chest, back and arms, covering all the areas you need warmed. I got a free controller with this from SBS which is a must as the high setting is VERY warm. It fits nicely under my RST Cordura and I don't need the liner in!! I do a 150 mile round trip a day and now question how I managed the cold before! well worth the investment. And it has a output to connect trousers or other items.. and leads in the wrist to connect gloves.. i run the jacket, trousers and insoles from the one lead, with the included 15a fuse.. A must investment for any winter rider.
I have recently bought this jacket, it was easy to set up, I have used it a few times and it is really warm, even when unplugged and walking around the fleece is good. I would recommend this jacket. Only niggle is that the temperature controller cannot fit in my outer jacked to make it easier to use. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
Can't fault jacket quality or warmth it's top rate, only issue for me sleeves are uncomfy and restricting under my outer jacket so exchanging for sleeveless vest. Sportsbikeshop have been fantastic This is my second exchange, first jacket different style, to big returned and received new size same week. Return process very easy.
Excellent product, excellent service
We both have the heated vests, and they are great, so because of the protracted winter cold, I thought the extra warmth offered in the arms and collar would be a favourable option. My wife absolutely loves it, she has the same size as the heated vest, and the other day, wore a grade 2 thermal vest,(lowest), the heated jacket, and then her Oxford Dakota jacket on top. Set on the lowest setting it kept her comfortably warm, and this even with health problems that require her blood to be thinned. An excellent investment, and fabulous service as always from SBS I agree that you must have the heat controller as well.
