If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
Excellent fabric, just used it on my trip and it kept me warm and dry, however I did have to go a couple of sizes up
My first Rukka jacket, so far only worn once.
Protection pads are good quality and larger than usual, I haven’t worn it in the rain yet so can’t comment on the water proofness.
Feels well made and fits lovely and comfortable.
Over the years I've bought all sorts of stuff and finally bit the bullet and bought Rukka. Wish I'd done it years ago. Excellent, comfortable fit and looking forward to trying it out in Wales in April.
This is my second Rukka suit and the quality is everything you would expect from Rukka, superb. I was a bit dubious about it not being Goretex but if anyone knows how to make a jacket waterproof it's Rukka. The jacket is extremely comfortable having stretch built in and has a low cut at the front to stop it bunching up. Not been out in torrential rain yet only a few short sharp showers but I don't have any worries. At half the price of a Nivala 2, I reckon it's 3/4 the jacket, only being marked down for missing a thermal liner, GTX cuffs & a storm collar. Well done Rukka for making a suit for us less well heeled.
The only Niggle is the high collar .
Just completed a 700mile mini tour of Wales in all weathers from mild overcast 15deg to heavy rain for at least 90 mins to 24 deg sun the following day. The suit handled all perfectly. I will start with the laminate and how it handled the rain - two words, bone dry. I had to store the suit in a tent after it was rained on and it was dry enough the next morning to get out on the bike again, Perfect. The venting is good, especially the shoulder and arms. Doesn't have chest vents but i find they aren't needed on my bike as the screen protects this area well from wind so chest vents wouldn't be effective. However the side vents are very effective and open the jacket out if needed when seated on the bike. The back exhaust venting works how it should also. Finally to the comfort level. Rukka suits are built with huge levels of armour fitted and quality materials, this suit has the necessary stretch to bring all day comfort. I cannot fault it that way. Buy with confidence as the suit is worth the price.
This new Rukka Kemi Jacket is simply outstanding! for the price, vents in all the usual place, bicep adjuster, lovely attention to detail, curved zip to ease of use with gloves etc. lanyard for key hold. Abrasion on shoulders & elbows a nice touch. D30 Lvl 2 armour in shoulders & elbows & Lvl 1 back protector.
All of the usual refinements of a Rukka, it is a far more comfortable jacket than the Nivala 2.0 due the stretch that is infused into the fabric, it is way lighter than the Nivala 2.0 & imo I doubt you'll not get a more comfortable Rukka Jacket than this.
No goretex with this however Rukka certainly do know how to make laminate work properly, I was out with this jacket when the heavens opened up & this did now let me down absolutely bone dry!
The price is absolutely fantastic, if you take all of the bells & whistles that the Nivala 2.0 has that the Kemi doesn't…. Storm collar… down jacket…goretex cuffs…chest protector etc. The difference is £650. If you add all of above to Kemi etc. you'd still have £300 so imo it is a much better buy.
A nice mid layer & your all sorted with this jacket.
It's now my go to Jacket, the build quality is absolutely superb, a great Jacket. Top notch from Rukka.
Awesome piece of kit.
Pros.
It's got a sports cut, fits like the old Nivala 1, shorter at front so doesn't ride up and long enough at the back to keep your butt covered.
Got the Rukka quality feel throughout. Loads of vents. Key holder clip in the outside left pocket is a great touch as is the secondary pocket inside to hold a phone. When you add chest armour you can still use the pocket, unlike my Rukka Rimo-R.
Trousers have vents front and back, great for air flow.
Overall I feel well protected in the suit, armour huge and abrasive panels where you want them.
Cons
Missing the storm cuffs but at the price point you have to accept it. Cuff fit with the velcro doesn't feel great.
Riding in 5-10 degree temps it didn't feel quite as warm as my Nivala 1, maybe the amount of vents or lack of goretex layer?? Throw the Rukka puffa or any other midlayer in there and you're sorted.
Overall awesome product for the price point. My go-to suit from now on.
