Shad SH38X Expandable Panniers - Carbon Finish

I really like the shape, colour and design of the expanding case.

However, the mechanism to attach the pannier to the Shad 3P system requires some force on the pannier lever to move the latches to lock it in place.
I am not sure it is designed to do this over a long period so I question the durability.
Perhaps after more repetitions this will become easier but time will tell.

Also, the locking mechanism works fine but not very intuitive on first use.
The handle to open the pannier, won't release until you push the lock, but it is not obvious it needs to be pushed! I am sure with time this won't be an issue.

So good product but attachment to bike for me has been causing some issues.

Great bit o kit

I bought these over a year ago now and have used them on 3 trips (Alps, Scotland and Wales) and at first I really liked them (my positive comments were originally included in the Bennett's BikeSocial review online) but I've had non-stop issues with the locking mechanisms. The springs that push out the angled pegs that hold the handle down constantly jam and this brings me to the very poor design. The lock doesn't lock the actual cases! The handle once closed blocks the case open release and the pegs hold the handle down. If the handle is up and you lock the case, you can still open it! All the lock does is locks the pegs and the push down button to retract them, in place. So if you ever forget to lower the handles, the pegs stick (as with mine) or even if you are just carrying the cases, they are NOT locked!
My cases have been returned under warranty so hopefully they are either fixed or replaced but that won't change the awful lock design and poor security.
I welcome feedback from SBS or Shad regarding the locks.

Bought to keep my bike width at the back the same as the handlebar width, but with the convenience of expanding storage when needed. The usual excellent SHAD build quality. Recommended.
