If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
Could do with some arm airflow but chest to back is great. Detachable inner jacket is really useful.
The jacket is great, it kept me warm on cold mornings and dry in a deluge. The air flow is pretty good for a laminated jacket but I have not tested on the hottest of days.
All armour including the chest is L2 which is amazing for the cost.
The jacket sizing comes up a little small and you need to size up. I am a size 38" chest and required a medium.
I'll start with the good stuff…
Great fit an feels really protective with a full set of armour, including chest protection.
Totally waterproof. Rode through an hour of torrential rain a couple of days after buying the suit, and all good.
Two minor downsides…
The Velcro on the sleeves is a tad short with winter gloves.
Because of the design, the neck is a bit low, but solved by wearing a next tube.
All in all, good stuff.
I had my doubts at first, as there were no reviews about, other than the official Leatt vid with Llewellyn from Brake Magazine, but I was looking for a laminate for touring, and most of the Gore-tex ones I tried were far too long in the sleeve for me (Rukka, RevIt, Klim), whereas this was the closest match I could find. I hummed and hawed over XL/2XL, but decided that the XL was roomy enough; besides, the 2XL rode up too much when I sat on the bike. My first run out wearing it - it rained, so I got to watch the water beads run off the front and the sleeves, nice. I didn't have the inner in, but didn't feel the cold from the rain. BTW, the inner is a really nice comfortable and warm unit that functions very well as a standalone jacket. My second outing ended up being 21 degrees, so I opened out the chest vents. At first, I didn't think they were up to much, as I couldn't feel the breeze on my chest (the chest armour is immediately behind the vent, so no surprises there, having seen the mesh holder for the armour I can tell that there'd be immediate & direct air if they were removed); however, 5 mins later, and I could feel that my chest was cooler for having the vents open.
It feels like a heavy jacket, but it could be that I've become too used to wearing a mesh over the summer.
Overall, I'm very pleased with it - the armour is larger than most other kit I've worn, covering a larger area, so feels safe, whilst fitting well - i.e. staying in place - and staying light.
Really good quality jacket, with great removable inner jacket that can be worn independently. Supplied with all armour, including chest armour. The jacket is heavy as a result, but not a problem when riding. I have not tested in the wet yet, but impressed do far.
