Drive chain needing a bit of love? Here's how we do it...
The box tells you which piece you need for which size chain, but not how to use the tool, so we resorted to YouTube and looked at similar type tools. An instruction manual, or a specific Oxford chain tool video, would be helpful.
This is a quality tool if the screw in handle was a little longer it would allow a little more purchase but otherwise a fantastic item
The advertisement was incorrect. I had to purchase a riveting tool to secure the master link safely in place these should be tested by companies before selling them as complete kit it’s not.
Great service as usual from Sportsbikeshop. The chain tool works great. Easy to use and does exactly what it says on the tin. No issues whatsoever and job done in no time at all. Great quality product that feels substantive and that it won t break first time you use it.
Not used yet but great price match
No reason why it shouldn't did what it should
Worked perfectly. As others have said, it needs some grease first.
Feels like a well made tool, yet to actually use it yet though but I'm sure it'll do the job
I bought this tool after a bit of research to replace a #525 chain on my Tracer 900.
I was a bit nervous as I had never replaced a rivet link chain before, but I had noticed that my old one was coming apart as the end of the rivet link pin had snapped, so I was reluctant to try and ride it to a garage for replacement! After contacting the helpful staff at both Oxford Products and SBS for some further product info, I opted for this Oxford Pro tool from SBS as it is rated for up to #630 size chains.
I did not have to use the tool for removing a pin on the old chain as it was already coming apart, but if I did I would follow the recommendation to grind the head of the rivet pin first.
I found the side plate easy to press on with the Pro tool and checked it was pressed on the right mount by comparing it with other links using a set of digital Vernier Calipers. I was also able to flare the rivet pin ok with the Pro tool.
I would advise lubricating the tool with a bit of grease and using a socket wrench for pressing on the side plate and flaring the rivet pin, as it is easier than using the handle provided.
You can download a set of instructions for Oxford Products and it has a nice case to keep it all together.
In future I'll now be replacing all my bike chains using this tool!
An all in one chain tool which makes changing your chain a simple and less expensive task. Designed to break chains, press fit connecting link plates and rivet pin heads.
