Verified Customer Reviews for HJC i80

Our customers say…
Customers praise this helmet for its comfort, quality feel and excellent value, with a wide field of view, clear visors and convenient features for glasses and communication kits. Many find it quieter than expected and easy to use, though some mention wind noise, peak rattling, and a fiddly visor or pinlock fit. Overall, customers see it as a well-made adventure-style helmet that performs strongly for the price, despite a few design quirks.

For an HJC helmet, I’m disappointed, although I acknowledge it is at the budget end of the scale.
The peak is either far too high to provide “ shade “ or down across the visor obscuring vision. As useful as a chocolate teapot.
The visor only works when chin piece is down ( should have done more in shop testing while trying on ) and fitting a Cardo intercom was a nightmare. The speakers fitted into the recesses, but the rest couldn’t be accommodated without cutting the cheek pads..and I’m still not entirely happy with the fitting.
Helmet bag has already started to fail.
I just hope it looks after my head in the event it is really needed.

Fits quite snugly, but I'm expecting it to wear in with use - maybe I should have bought the next size up, but it felt too loose. There is a fair bit of wind noise, but I don't know how it compares to other helmets of this type. Is a bit of wind resistance when looking over my shoulder, but not excessive - might lessen if the peak is removed. Flip front is easy to use, the helmet fit tightens quite noticeably when flipping the front back down. Retractable sun screen works well, a bit of a fumble to use the slider at first, but doesn't take long to get used to. Visor easy to use, and comes with pinlock insert - no issues with fogging up so far, but haven't used the helmet in cold or rainy conditions as of yet. Relatively heavy when compared to a non flip front helmet. Haven't tried fitting speakers yet, but there are recesses for them. Priced well. Would recommend one of these helmets.

I bought a flip up helmet because I've just started wearing glasses and thought it would be easier.
Watch the you tube review before you buy not after like me.
Ventilation is poor, can't tell if they're open or closed.
The visor/pinlock fitting is a nightmare and greasey.
Seems a bit noisey and the peak is useless.

Spent 2 weeks just wearing at home on and off with stickers on to make sure it was a good fit. Initially snug but loosened up nicely. Installed included pin lock which was very simple process. Then tested over 6 days riding through Europe in all weathers and speeds. Good bits - helmet is quiet, sun visor has two height settings and is dark enough. Flip lid is easy to use and great at passport control or in warm weather. Bad points - sun peak vibrates at motorway speed and is just in top of eye line. The sun visor started to stick and needed a push to retract it. Oh and the ridiculous bit of foam on the chin part of lid to stop drafts get caught in awkward position when putting flip front back down. It is Velcro so can be removed but when you need it on it s annoying. Overall for price plenty of good bits, just needs a few tweaks to make great

Love the design, fits like a glove, unfortunately I've no ride review just yet because of the weather ect. I normally go up a size when buying a hjc, my shoei is a large but in hjc i buy a xl. Really good quality at a very respectable price. It's said to be a budget helmet but doesn't feel it. As usual sportsbikeshop price was spot on and fast delivery too. Cheers

If your not weathered to a flip front helmet this can be a little heavy to use with the flip open...other than that good quality helmet, good value.

Nice quiet Helmet compared to my old Caberg Sintesi, fits nice and snug. The chin strap could do with being a little shorter for me as it is done up as short as it can go but does not grip my chin, I can get my fingers inbetween my chin and the chin strap. (The Caberg was the same). Build quality feels good, changing the Visor is a little fiddly as the peak is held on with the same 2 side screws. Overall, a great Helmet for the money in my opinion.

This helmet meets the highest safety standards and looks great. Sadly the peak just doesn’t really work if using this on any national speed limit roads. It rattles and the screws on either side constantly come loose, I expected some minor wind buffeting from it but for it to come loose is clearly a design flaw. I also found a problem with the sun visor, the vibration of the peak seems to cause the mechanism get stuck in the down position and you have to be quite forceful to get it to go back up which isn’t ideal if you go through a tunnel or into dark tree lined lanes and you want the visor up quickly.

Just discovered HJC, own a V10 which I love.
Comfortable, love the shade visor flip down, light.
The i80 in comparison to the V10 has more wind noise, even without the sun peak.

My new favourite

For context, prior helmets and other helmets I currently have are the Schuberth C2, Schuberth C3, Shoei Neotec 2, and HJC RPHA 91 carbon. The i80 is my new favourite go to helmet.
This is very subjective, and whilst the Schuberth and Shoei helmets fit me comfortably, since getting the RPHA 91 I realised they sat more on my head, whereas with the HJC RPHA 91 and this i80, it really fills like my head is in the helmet.
The i80 is comfortable in terms of shape and the inner lining. I have it fitted with a PackTalk; this helmet has a nice feature in that whilst the neck roll of course goes all the way around, and there's a hard rubber gasket on the outside going all the way round by the neck roll, there is a specific place marked out for where the clamp for the comms can go, so no need to glue anything to the helmet.
The optics on both visors are clear with no distortion. Comes with a huge pinlock that works as you'd expect.
Is it louder than the other 'premium' helmets, with the top vent open, definitely, especially at motorway speeds. But I've found that I've only really felt the need to open the top vent once the temps got near to 30 and above. Riding around town, I have no issues not using ear plugs with this helmet. Motorway journeys, I always use ear plugs no matter the helmet, so noise has never been an issue for me there and isn't with the i80 either..
I can't speak to any additional noise created by the peak as I don't ride with it on.
Would certainly recommend. A gloss finish option would be nice.
The mechanism for the front flip is easy and secure.
One thing to note is there is no quick release for the front visor. To take the visor off you have to take out two screws (one either side). But not only does the visor come loose, so does the whole chin bar. You're effecively part disassembling the helmet.

This is a very good helmet for the money and does have flip up with an adventure peak, sun visor and pillock ready visor with matching insert all great at the price point
The white i picked is a lovely pearlescent and it has all the things to take an intercom including marked clamp mount point
Model has only just come out and mine developed 2 issues with the peek/ visor bolt kept coming loose and the sun visor jamming. I'd also like to see Less grease in the mechanisms it was excessive? I'm having to send mine back after 1 weeks use for a replacement and let's hope hjc sort issues in later production units
