HJC i80 - Velly Black

For context, prior helmets and other helmets I currently have are the Schuberth C2, Schuberth C3, Shoei Neotec 2, and HJC RPHA 91 carbon. The i80 is my new favourite go to helmet.
This is very subjective, and whilst the Schuberth and Shoei helmets fit me comfortably, since getting the RPHA 91 I realised they sat more on my head, whereas with the HJC RPHA 91 and this i80, it really fills like my head is in the helmet.
The i80 is comfortable in terms of shape and the inner lining. I have it fitted with a PackTalk; this helmet has a nice feature in that whilst the neck roll of course goes all the way around, and there's a hard rubber gasket on the outside going all the way round by the neck roll, there is a specific place marked out for where the clamp for the comms can go, so no need to glue anything to the helmet.
The optics on both visors are clear with no distortion. Comes with a huge pinlock that works as you'd expect.
Is it louder than the other 'premium' helmets, with the top vent open, definitely, especially at motorway speeds. But I've found that I've only really felt the need to open the top vent once the temps got near to 30 and above. Riding around town, I have no issues not using ear plugs with this helmet. Motorway journeys, I always use ear plugs no matter the helmet, so noise has never been an issue for me there and isn't with the i80 either..
I can't speak to any additional noise created by the peak as I don't ride with it on.
Would certainly recommend. A gloss finish option would be nice.
The mechanism for the front flip is easy and secure.
One thing to note is there is no quick release for the front visor. To take the visor off you have to take out two screws (one either side). But not only does the visor come loose, so does the whole chin bar. You're effecively part disassembling the helmet.

This is a very good helmet for the money and does have flip up with an adventure peak, sun visor and pillock ready visor with matching insert all great at the price point
The white i picked is a lovely pearlescent and it has all the things to take an intercom including marked clamp mount point
Model has only just come out and mine developed 2 issues with the peek/ visor bolt kept coming loose and the sun visor jamming. I'd also like to see Less grease in the mechanisms it was excessive? I'm having to send mine back after 1 weeks use for a replacement and let's hope hjc sort issues in later production units

The helmet is good value not a lot of wind noise even at motorway speeds. It did well in a sudden downpour which was unexpected but performed well. Lots of plus points. Really awkward to put the pinlock in, so I took it back to Glasgow store and they were happy to help me out they had the same issue but eventually they got it. Big thanks to all the staff there for helping in my choice and helping me with the pinlock and com system.

My first adventure type helmet. Great quality for a cheaper priced helmet. Excellent field of view through the wide aperture visor.
Interior is comfy and the general finish is great. The visor works well, is not too noisy and doesn't rattle like some other adventure helmets. Venting is ok, top vent works well but chin vent is just ok.
My Cardo edge kit fitted well using it's clamp and there is a position marked for clamps on the helmet interior once the cheek pads are removed.
Very pleased with my purchase.

I had the HJC IS 2 Max also a flip face previous to this purchase. Although the design and graphics look great , the wind noise from the larger visor is really annoying ! I've only worn it for a few hours and I might have to invest in ear plugs .
The peak was also damaged when received , it has been sorted out by SportsBikeShop. The peak can be removed and it looks great with or without . It gets a 6/10 from me .

It's the style I like.

Wanted a peaked flip front- didn’t want to risk too much cash in case it didn’t work out. Overall a very good helmet, well made, easy functions, nice quality. Struggling to find right windscreen position/combination to eliminate peak shuddering which is annoying. I’ve bought a wind deflector which is helping but May end up only using the peak when low sun in winter

Purchased this helmet on 20th Feb after looking for a new adventure flip style helmet. After the initial break in period about 10 hours or so heres my findings.

Its a very quiet helmet with little wind noise and extremely comfortable to wear.

So far i have 2 down points to the helmet.
1) After fitting the pinlock to the visor. The peak screws into the helmet sides at the visor rotate point, you have to remove it all to take the visor off and when putting it back together the screw one side worked loose while on a ride out causing the peak to rattle and i had to stop to pop open the cover to tighten it all back up.

2) When using the flip front, when you raise the front the visor locks to the front in the closed position. So when you lower the flip the visor is already closed. I will get use to it but find it inconvienient when out and about.

Overall im extremely happy with the helmet and would happily recommend someone else to buy it.

I tried a selection I'd picked out in the store and as per usual the staff assistant was excellent.Looks great even with the peek which is removable.The fit is spot on and feels quality and not a lesser lid against the ones I was trying of which some was double the price.The ventilation is the best I've had on any helmet as is the field of vision.On the road I've not had any turbulence ,which surprised me.I ware glasses and this helmet accomadates nicely.I like the control operations for opening the flip and the visor has 2 tangs to open from either hand ( should be on all visors).The sun visor is adjustable to where it sits over your nose again very handy.So why only 4 stars ,I ware ear plugs and still found the wind noise to be greater than expected,so until I try without the peak to see if it lessens I've only rated a 4 , however it's a softer wind noise than any of my other lids .
