Rheon Full Back Protector - CE2

Very flexible & light , it covers a big area of the back. ,actually prefer it to my Rukka back protector as it’s more comfortable

I bought one of these Rheon CE Level 2 full back protectors to try, and have now replaced the back protectors in eight jackets - mine and my wife’s - with these. That probably says everything!

I’m a huge fan of D3O armour, and some of the back protectors I replaced were already Level 2 D3O, so I wasn't swapping out cheap stuff - the Rheon is just better to live with.

The biggest difference is airflow. Back protectors are normally the bit of armour you notice most in hot weather because they block a huge area of your jacket. But these really don’t. The open structure lets far more air move through, which makes a massive difference in vented jackets and summer kit. You still know there is a proper back protector in there, but you don’t get that horrible sweaty slab feeling in the same way.

Comfort is excellent too. It is flexible, light, and sits nicely in the jacket rather than making the whole thing feel stiff or bulky. Once fitted, I basically forget it is there, which is exactly what we all want from armour.

Protection-wise, it is CE Level 2, so you're not giving up any protection for comfort (and in fact, you're likely upgrading protection as most jackets, even most of my Klim jackets, only come with level 1). That is the whole point for me. I want proper protection, but I also want kit I’ll wear all day without getting annoyed by it.

They are not cheap, especially when you start replacing multiple jackets, but I think this is one of the best armour upgrades you can make. I liked them enough to put them in every jacket we use.

Expensive, yes. Worth it? absolutely.

After a conversation on the phone to Sportsbikeshop I ordered a selection of back protectors for my Alpinestar jacket (free returns) and this one stood out in lightness & fit perfect in the pocket in my jacket. Been out on the bike & it s very comfortable & light weight so you hardly know it s there. Highly recommended & as always sportsbike shop are the best at offering advice & great service. Julian

Can’t really comment on the performance of protection, all I know is when it’s in the suit you can’t even tell it’s in there. So that’s a positive.

I like the lightweight, flexibility, softness and lack of bulk compared to my previous back protectors. The Rheon fits neatly into my Crosby's back protector pocket and is not noticeable when wearing the jacket. It is also flattering in that its lack of bulk does not make me look as though I have gained weight. I have not ridden my bike wearing the jacket as the weather has been extremely wet. However, I have sat on the bike in the garage wearing the jacket and it feels good. It is a bit pricey, but then this compares with the cost of older types of back protectors. I noticed that the product has a slight surface "stickiness". Not that this was a problem other than raising the question of life expectancy.
The product was ordered online and being in stock was dispatched for next day delivery. The packing was a neat environmentally friendly padded envelope. Good service from Sportsbikeshop.

I bought this back protector to partner with my mesh airflow jacket as the protector has full airflow through it. It’ works as it should it’s light moves and bends with your body as it should and also great protection. What’s not to like?

Great quality back protector, very flexible and will breath lots of air, yet to be tested in hotter weather but I'm sure it will be great. Also a great fit in my Dainese carve master 4 jacket. Superb quick delivery from sportsbikeshop never lets me down

Sick of the bulky ,stiff and sweaty protectors I had in that basically take up a jacket size
This new Rheon stuff is brilliant and solves all those issues
I ride everywhere from the the Sahara to the York moors and would highly recommend

I got this to go in my Klim Marrakesh jacket which was a straight swap over, you don’t know it’s there, so very good so far. Hard to review armour until you’ve used it.
