When it comes to staying warm, the first layer is key. Start here, with these…
Customers have praised this wind-blocking top for its excellent thermal properties, perfect for colder rides. The top fits snugly, often requiring sizing up, but its windproof function effectively keeps riders warm. Customers have noted the material as a bit restrictive, but once on, the comfort and warmth are remarkable. The neck design can be slightly irritating against the skin, but a scarf can remedy this. Overall, the top is highly recommended for its effective protection and exceptional value.
Used as low as 1 degree under a hoodie, over a t shirt. I won’t go out without it anything below 15 degrees
All brands of these Wind protectors are tight not just this one. I am XL but picked a 3XL instead. Good thing about Sportsbikeshop is that you can try them all on and pick the brand you prefer. I wear a kevlar hoody on local runs and this top keeps the wind out so it's a fantastic purchase, trouble is that my lass now wants the same so trip to Glasgow for us.
Wore this over a thin T shirt and light Richa jacket. Worked well keeping off the wind chill.
Having lost a fair few kilos over winter, and having read other reviews mentioning sizing of this garment, I was unsure of what size to order. I decided to order XL which is what I would have ordered pre weight loss. Very glad I did as the garment was definitely close fitting. However, as a base layer, the fit is excellent and will allow enough space for a fine compression layer underneath. The quality is all that I have come to expect from RST.
Good quality , strong but light material does a good job of insulating you ,from experience on ordering go two sizes bigger .
I can't believe how much more comfortable during my ride, although weather was 5 degrees warmer than previous ride, still on a naked bike at high speeds you get cold straight away, not when wearing the rst thermal wind block top and bottom even under perforated leathers it's keep you warm and comfortable highly recommend them.
Great piece of kit. Very warm and comfortable material. Buy a size up.
I love this top. Super toasty. Would definitely recommend it.
For the price its excellent. Yes it is good at blocking windblast. Its a little stiff at the moment, maybe will soften over time
This is a great wind block and cheaper than the Klim or Alpine stars zip variety. Therein lies the rub though as it's a bit awkward to get on and off on trips (hence one start drop) You're typically wearing it somewhere warm but where it's chilly first or last thing and there fore you want to be able to remove easily as the temps rise. For that reason I've upgraded to the Klim Zephyr / Alpine Stars wind top but they are almost double the price so if you want a reasonable priced top that will make your mesh or lightweight jacke warmer on cooler rides then this will do you good. I'm a small guy 38" chest and the small is snug on me.
This does exactly what it says. Worth every penny. Most of my kit is RST and can’t fault any of it.
Living in the north east of England and riding year round I'm always looking for that 'one' thing that actually works and keeps you warm. This is definitely one of those pieces of equipment that works as advertised.
First time I tried it was in zero degree temperatures and the windproof property of the top made a massive difference to the ride comfort. The top also has a nice soft fleece-like lining that keeps you warm.
As the other reviews say, the material is a bit weird and the sizing is definitely on the small size, so size up.
The matching gloves for this are also excellent for cold days.
Size: Medium.
Fit: Perfect. Close without being restricting. Sleeves perfect length and the collar wraps the neck well.
Rider Dimensions: 5"11, 81kg, 16inch collar, 33 inch arm length and 31 inch waist.
I've tested it both as a baselayer and a mid layer. In my opinion this works better as a mid layer.
Baselayer Test:
Worn under another light zip top with the RST Paragon 6 jacket (Inc lining) on the outside. (RST jacket size 42)
Plenty warm but restricted around the arms and not a comfortable riding experience. More difficult to look around and do you checks. May work better if the lining was removed from the jacket but in winter I don't want to take it out/in.
Tested as Mid Layer
Worn over baselayer T-shirt and under the RST Paragon 6 jacket (size 42). Perfect experience this time. Warm and able to move around freely. No restrictions on movement of arms/neck/shoulders.
Tested Feb 2025.
Bought with the intention of using under a lighter summer jacket when the weather picks up a little and I have no concerns about it fitting well underneath.
Very happy with the purchase. First order with Sportsbikeshop and the experience has lived up to all the positive reviews. Delivered within a couple of days with shipping included and easy return option if required. Will definitely use them again.
Someone in the glasgow store got me try this with a jacket I was actually there to buy. The thinking was that a decent thermal layer is always worth considering for any layering system a rider has for scottish roads. Got into the winter and decided i needed thermals. No brainer on choosing this. Arrived quickly and fits well. Good quality as expected.
Excellent piece of kit, really warm and definitely does it's job, rode my bike in 4 degree temperature and felt warm all ride. Well made and comfortable to wear. Only thing is that you need to go at least 1 size maybe 2 sizes bigger than normal depending on what you wear underneath as smaller fitting.
Well worth the money.
It's good quality if a bit snug. I went for a large which usually works for me, but I should have gone for the XL.
If you're looking for a light weight, extremely well designed wind blocker, look no further. Excellent quality and super comfortable. Blocks wind (and the cold) exactly as described.
Sizing up is a must and not optional. Im a large in every case and sized up to an XL based on the reviews and it was a perfect fit.
Bought the RST thermal wind block top and bottoms online from sports bike shop UK. Was unable to get my size here in NEWZEALAND and UK had my size which is true to fit. Very good quality and perfect for wearing under my kevlar jeans and shirt. They arrived there 12,000km journey in a speedy time frame and I'm so happy with them. Thankyou very much.

Whilst there's no reason you can't wear something underneath this, it's listed as being a base layer, and so it's designed to be the first layer worn.
