Our customers say…
Customers have praised the RST gear for its effectiveness in keeping them warm during colder rides. Many noted that the sizing runs small and advised ordering one or two sizes up for a comfortable fit, especially if layering. The top is highly regarded for its wind-blocking capabilities and overall quality. The offset zip and high collar feature received specific mention for their functionality in preventing drafts. Overall, it's recommended as an essential item for cold weather riding.

Great wind block
18 April 2025 by Matthew W
This is a great wind block and cheaper than the Klim or Alpine stars zip variety. Therein lies the rub though as it's a bit awkward to get on and off on trips (hence one start drop) You're typically wearing it somewhere warm but where it's chilly first or last thing and there fore you want to be able to remove easily as the temps rise. For that reason I've upgraded to the Klim Zephyr / Alpine Stars wind top but they are almost double the price so if you want a reasonable priced top that will make your mesh or lightweight jacke warmer on cooler rides then this will do you good. I'm a small guy 38" chest and the small is snug on me.

Excellent piece of kit

This does exactly what it says. Worth every penny. Most of my kit is RST and can’t fault any of it.

The missing winter piece!
25 February 2025 by SK
Living in the north east of England and riding year round I'm always looking for that 'one' thing that actually works and keeps you warm. This is definitely one of those pieces of equipment that works as advertised.
First time I tried it was in zero degree temperatures and the windproof property of the top made a massive difference to the ride comfort. The top also has a nice soft fleece-like lining that keeps you warm.
As the other reviews say, the material is a bit weird and the sizing is definitely on the small size, so size up.
The matching gloves for this are also excellent for cold days.

Could be made by Ronseal
25 February 2025 by Conor
Size: Medium.
Fit: Perfect. Close without being restricting. Sleeves perfect length and the collar wraps the neck well.

Rider Dimensions: 5"11, 81kg, 16inch collar, 33 inch arm length and 31 inch waist.

I've tested it both as a baselayer and a mid layer. In my opinion this works better as a mid layer.

Baselayer Test:
Worn under another light zip top with the RST Paragon 6 jacket (Inc lining) on the outside. (RST jacket size 42)

Plenty warm but restricted around the arms and not a comfortable riding experience. More difficult to look around and do you checks. May work better if the lining was removed from the jacket but in winter I don't want to take it out/in.

Tested as Mid Layer
Worn over baselayer T-shirt and under the RST Paragon 6 jacket (size 42). Perfect experience this time. Warm and able to move around freely. No restrictions on movement of arms/neck/shoulders.

Tested Feb 2025.

Bought with the intention of using under a lighter summer jacket when the weather picks up a little and I have no concerns about it fitting well underneath.

Very happy with the purchase. First order with Sportsbikeshop and the experience has lived up to all the positive reviews. Delivered within a couple of days with shipping included and easy return option if required. Will definitely use them again.

Exactly what I needed
17 February 2025 by Sven
Someone in the glasgow store got me try this with a jacket I was actually there to buy. The thinking was that a decent thermal layer is always worth considering for any layering system a rider has for scottish roads. Got into the winter and decided i needed thermals. No brainer on choosing this. Arrived quickly and fits well. Good quality as expected.

Rst wind block top
08 February 2025 by Lee K
Excellent piece of kit, really warm and definitely does it's job, rode my bike in 4 degree temperature and felt warm all ride. Well made and comfortable to wear. Only thing is that you need to go at least 1 size maybe 2 sizes bigger than normal depending on what you wear underneath as smaller fitting.
Well worth the money.

Sungg fit
03 February 2025 by Michael D
It's good quality if a bit snug. I went for a large which usually works for me, but I should have gone for the XL.

Super high quality - Size up.
18 January 2025 by Gixxer 1
If you're looking for a light weight, extremely well designed wind blocker, look no further. Excellent quality and super comfortable. Blocks wind (and the cold) exactly as described.
Sizing up is a must and not optional. Im a large in every case and sized up to an XL based on the reviews and it was a perfect fit.

12,000km journey
12 January 2025 by Lyndon Y
Bought the RST thermal wind block top and bottoms online from sports bike shop UK. Was unable to get my size here in NEWZEALAND and UK had my size which is true to fit. Very good quality and perfect for wearing under my kevlar jeans and shirt. They arrived there 12,000km journey in a speedy time frame and I'm so happy with them. Thankyou very much.

RUGGED THERMAL TOP (BUT WATCH SIZING!)
20 December 2024 by Alan B
Winter riding demands quality thermals & this RST under-jacket definitely provides a worthwhile layer of protection that's noticeably warmer when the temperature drops!
It it, however, way out on sizing as I had to go up a full TWO sizes above my normal L to achieve the correct fit!
However, this is where dealing with the truly superb customer care of SBS comes to the fore, as they quickly arranged a swap AND DELIVERED IT IN TWO DAYS: NOT A PROBLEM!
After all my years of buying here, why would I ever go anywhere else!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Snug and Warm
13 December 2024 by Chris H
Purchased for a fellow biker who is perpetually cold (from about August each year) as an Xmas gift. For him to say that its warm is high praise indeed. Still riding well into December and not able to feel the cold at all. Sizing was accurate and really good quality

Season Extender
21 October 2024 by Tricky_Pieface
Super piece of kit. Nice fit and well made, I think RST gear is pretty hard to beat when it comes to what you get for your money. I love wearing my leather jacket but it is full of perforations. This blocks all the drafts out so I can wear my leather jacket down to 10 and even lower. I have the matching bottoms to go under jeans and they are fab too.

Amazing
20 October 2024 by Simon
I've tried a few thermals and this wind block top is by far the best, it's stops the wind chill and keeps you warm. The quality of the RST products are always really good, so I'm happy with my purchase.

Great Quality
17 October 2024 by Mark
This is a mid weight mid layer, a bit more bulky than a normal thermal base layer. Well thought out and great quality, the side zip keeps the chill off your neck, it kept me really warm on a cold weekend bike trip, looks great but like other reviews i went up a size, normally I'm a medium in everything but ordered a large in this after reading other reviews and it fits perfectly

Way too small
17 October 2024 by Carl H
Seems like a nice well made top but unfortunately far too small. I'm 6ft 2" and 14 stone and I ordered a 2XL as the reviews said to order up a size. It was so small I had to check the label and it was indeed labelled 2XL so had to return it. Very disappointed

Quality item that works

Quality item that makes a difference. Wish I bought one before now. Size wise, I had to go a size up.
Had to return first item and move up a size, SBS service 1st class yet again.

Great VRM, Warm and unobtrusive.
05 May 2024 by Andy M
This top does exactly what it says,- I've worn it as a base layer on cold days, and as the only layer on sunny days with only a leather jacket over the top. It is wind proof and does have thermal properties.
It fits well (I'm a 44" chest, I bought and XL), just tight enough. Pulling it on and off is a bit of a contortionist routine, but it's comfortable when it is on. My only minor gripe is that the stand up collar sometimes feels a bit scratchy against my neck, I usually wear a thin scarf so it's nut not generally I problem.
One more thing, it's wind proof, so consequently it's not breathable, I found it could be a bit sweaty if you have a lot of other layers on.
Great VFM, and looks tidy enough to wear casually outdoors, (perhaps not in a restaurant though,)
The service from SBS in MK was impeccable as always.

What is it like compared to oxford Chillout
07 March 2024 by Stephen B
For over 7 years and 100K miles I've used my Oxford Chill out high neck top. But it has finally given up.
I wanted a high nec and a none front zip. This was the only real option. My oxford was an XL but I had to get a 3XL in this rst to fit. So its rated good as it does what it says. However to get the other star I would have like elasticated cuffs an a slightly tighter neck closer that is softer. I have to wear a snood to stop neck drafts. Only had it just under 2 weeks and 700 miles so please bear in mind it's not been washed or had years of use when reading my review.

  • Would you wear something under this top? Or is it surpose to be worn like a compression top under your leathers?

Whilst there's no reason you can't wear something underneath this, it's listed as being a base layer, and so it's designed to be the first layer worn.
