If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
Well made with protection, Stylish hoody .Great for short rides in good weather. Wears like a normal hoody so casual when off the bike
Large fitting so go one size down if you only intend to wear a t-shirt underneath, which you probably will as it is a lot warmer to wear than I had imagined. The armour is what it is. I took mine out and wear it as an ordinary hoodie on and off the bike.
Great hoodie, good quality and fit. I use it on short jorneys, need a jumber underneath as it realy lets the air in,
Bought this for lighter more casual jacket. Whilst it still has weight, it is certainly more casual than my normal leather jacket. Feels well made and of good quality. I shall be buying another colour as I like it so much. Thanks SBS for your outstanding service as always.
So I bought both the Merlin zip-upAramid hoody and the Richa Titan hoodie to compare simaler priced items. Both the large fits fitted me and I am medium build and both seemed to be if the same weight. The Merlin hoodie has the same Colton feel as the Richa but is water resistant. Furthermore the Aramid protection feels substantial covering all the jacket unlike the Richa that is woven in. And does not feel so substantial and he's to tell Certainly if I was in a spill at low speeds then I would be more confident in the Merlin. The Merlin also offers a small loop to connect to jeans which I like although unlike the Richa the pockets on the front are not zipped. The Richa has the upgraded c30 protection ( although not in he back ) but you could upgrade these and well the Merlin was ok . The Richa has a detachable hood which allows for a collar which I like. The pockets on the Merlin fo not go all the way down the front and as they are unzipped which is really not that useful in my opinion apart from using them to put your hands in . them to put your hands in.
I did not try either of these goodies out on the road but reading up on them the Merlin has slightly better wind resistant ( see you tube ) the pockets on the inside seemed better on the Richa although the jacket does come up a bit short ( Not they I really felt they was a deal breaker and I am 6ft .
In conclusion the Merlin just edges it for me , it round be nice if he pockets were better with zips and it had a detachable collar, but it's water resistant and the total Aramid coverage won it for me over the Richa. The detailing on the Richa appeared better , slightly better zips, I liked the logo at the back and C30 protection was very swish but in the end if I had a spill at low speed then its the Merlin god me. Clearly these hackers are not for more spirited riding more like a trip to town at 30 -40 mls per hour . Certainly an fast A road or motorway would be thought provoking in trend if a spill and feeling protected
Hope this has been useful
I bought this to wear in the hot weather instead of my leathers.
It's still quite thick being fully lined but that's the price of protection. The armour is good and I purchased a knox back protector to go in it, it fits perfectly and keeps it all British. It seems to be well made and with no extra logos etc, it looks like a normal hoody. Size wise as a 5'11, 40 inch chest, I am usually a solid medium but after looking around on line for reviews, I went for the small and the fit is perfect.
Sportbikeshop was fantastic as ever, fast no nonsense delivery.
